Artists in recovery are invited to submit artwork for Washington County CATT! Washington County Behavioral Health and Studio Art Direct invite local artists in recovery from problem substance use to submit their artwork for possible display. The artwork selected will be featured at one of two buildings that make up Washington County’s future Center for Addictions Triage and Treatment (CATT) in Beaverton and Hillsboro. Artists will be compensated for their work. “We are seeking artwork with themes of transformation, hope, and the natural world,” said Janelle Baglien, president and art director of Studio Art Direct. “Nature's calming influence plays a significant role in addiction treatment, and we encourage submissions that reflect this tranquility, as well as stories of personal transformation and strength.” The deadline for submissions is September 30, and selected artists will be notified on October 20. Artwork will be installed at the two locations in 2025. Complete guidelines and additional instructions are available at the link below.

For over two decades, the Start School Right Program has been a beacon of hope for children within REACH Community Development's housing communities, ensuring they step into the new school year with confidence and the tools to succeed. REACH provides essential school supplies to kids, so they can focus on learning without any setbacks. We had a ton of fun running the snow cone machine at the event last night, which took place at 72Foster. Seeing the space full of life during community events brings us so much joy.

We're thrilled to spotlight the ongoing construction of Julia West House for Community Development Partners in partnership with Holst Architecture—a groundbreaking 12-story, 59,000 SF mass timber apartment building that will offer 90-units of critical housing assistance for Portland seniors facing housing insecurity. Set to become Portland's tallest mass timber structure upon its 2025 completion, Julia West maximizes the building's footprint on a challenging site. The team has carefully analyzed materials to ensure the most environmentally friendly choices, making this project a beacon of sustainable development. Despite the complexities of building on a compact 5,000 SF site, our talented Walsh crew — Ed Sloop, Brian Layman, Bryan Ware, Sarah Stein, Cole Boster and Caitlin Kelley — has shown unmatched precision, innovation, and teamwork. Special shout-out to our self-performed crews at RDF Builders Concrete for their incredible craft, exceptional quality, and precise schedule management! Additional teams that are making it happen: ★ Carpentry Plus, Inc. ★ Pacific Foundation ★ KPFF Consulting Engineers ★ Simpson Strong-Tie #walshaffordable #walshbuildscommunity #affordablesenior #MassTimber #AffordableHousing #Teamwork #Sustainability #Portland

"The arts invite us to see, to think, to listen, to feel, and to reflect. I can’t imagine a more urgent path for humans and for humanity.” - Patricia Valian Reser The recently completed Patricia Valian Reser Center for the Creative Arts is a truly mixed-use facility, collapsing distinctions between audience and performer, rehearsal and performance, students and the public. The building supports the university’s goal of moving from a STEM to STEAM education model and transforms everyday spaces into platforms for expression. From the 500-seat recital hall and black box theater to the 3,000 sq. ft. Stirek Gallery and “Student Heart” in the lobby, PRAx has something for everyone to enjoy. 📸 Christian Columbres

Holst and Walsh Construction Co. are currently working with the City of Hillsboro on the Hillsboro Year-Round Shelter—a project that will create a safe, supportive, and healing environment for approximately 75 individuals facing homelessness. While the new facility is being constructed, the City is providing temporary shelter on the project site with the “Safe Rest Pods”, hosting 36 guests. These pods provide temporary emergency shelter and offer mental health, housing, and employment support to help connect guests to stable housing in the future. For the last couple months, Holst and Walsh held a donation drive to collect items and create care packages for the 36 pod guests. On July 23, the team was able to give the care packages to guests and host a BBQ for everyone. It was a great opportunity to meet and support people in the community before construction of the year-round shelter begins in the coming months.
