It's officially summer which means we've suspended fish deliveries until fall and will spend the next couple months focusing on cross training opportunities for our team members. This week's cross training had members of our fish delivery team out on the water for an electrofishing population survey. Electrofishing applies a direct current to the water column to stun fish. Our team collects the stunned fish from the surface with a net to identify, count, weigh and age members of the fish population. Once we're done collecting data, the fish are safely released back into the water. Using standardized techniques and the data collected, we can determine the relative abundance and growth rates of the fish, identify population dynamics and obtain a more accurate view of fish health and the ecosystem as a whole.
