  • Lauren Griffith worked in mental health for over 20 years and was ready for a change. With a bachelor’s degree in social work and a master’s degree in education and mental health counseling, she wanted to stay in a hospital setting but in a different role. She found exactly what she was looking for when she became a family liaison in the UK King’s Daughters Emergency Department nearly three years ago. Lauren is an advocate for the patient – checking on them, addressing any complaints or concerns, talking to providers and nurses for any updates, and seeing if they need anything to make their experience better. She still uses her counseling skills to help deescalate situations and communicate with patients and families to find out what’s really going on. “Many times, they just want to be heard and have someone who will take the time to sit and listen to them and help them to understand what is going on,” Lauren said. “My favorite part is when the patients are happy and watching their anxiety go down. Showing compassion and empathy goes a long way. King’s Daughters really cares about their team members and patients. The collaborative effort in the ED makes it a great environment to work in. Seeing the difference we make for our patients makes it all worthwhile.” Our Emergency Department is growing, with our new building expected to open in 2025. • Eli Lewis began his career at UK King’s Daughters in the ED residency program, and became a nurse in the Emergency Department back in December. He had worked as a server during nursing school, which helped him to prepare for the flow and quick pace of the Emergency Department. “My favorite part is the adrenaline rush you get when trying to help people quickly,” Eli said. “I love the problem-solving aspect and figuring out what is wrong with the patient. If you like a challenge and like to think critically, you should definitely give the ED a shot.” Our Emergency Department is growing, with our new building expected to open in 2025. • Brandi Compliment, RN, loved working in the UK King’s Daughters emergency room, but wanted to try something new. She left in December 2023 to become a travel nurse, but quickly learned that it was not the right fit for her. “I missed the people I worked with,” Brandi said. “I was hesitant in the beginning, and knew within a month that I was ready to come back to King’s Daughters. I stuck out the 13-week contract and returned in March. I made the best decision for me and my family.” If you would be interested in joining the UK King’s Daughters team, visit MyKDCareer.com.
