Congratulations to graduates of the The Linden Culinary Hub, a culinary training program for high school students residing at Linden Houses in Brooklyn! Led by Donna Brown, aka Chef Rootsie and the founder of Veggie Grub, the 10-week summer program taught 13 students essential kitchen skills, food preparation methods, and delicious plant-based recipes. The program culminated with a graduation ceremony and food-tasting event showcasing the students’ creations at the Christian Cultural Center in Brooklyn, with family, friends, and community leaders. Get ready to meet the coolest new resident at Bronx Point – an 18-foot, 7,000-pound ‘Rappin’ Max Robot’! This jaw-dropping steel sculpture is the brainchild of Welder Underground, a Brooklyn-based apprenticeship program that’s training the next generation of metal workers. This is their debut project, and they’ve brought artist Eric Orr’s iconic Rappin’ Max Robot character to life in a BIG way. Originally created for the first-ever hip-hop comic book back in 1986, Max is now a steel giant you can’t miss! But hurry – Max is only in the Bronx for a limited time outside The Hip Hop Museum before he heads off to his permanent home in Paris next year to celebrate breakdancing’s debut in the 2024 Olympics! L+M Development Partners and Type A Projects LLC completed the 542-unit affordable housing project Bronx Point in October 2023. The Hip Hop Museum is expected to open in the building in 2025. This summer, fourteen dedicated middle school students from Stanley Avenue Preservation participated in the NYCHA STEAM Innovators project. This five-week program was designed to immerse students in STEAM (science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics) through hands-on learning experiences. Under the guidance of Salvadori Center STEAM educators and professional designers, these students acquired valuable skills in math, science, and design, and their efforts were focused on redesigning their community center. The students, who are part of the CAMBA youth program, have developed technically sound and community-driven designs. This fall, their plans will be brought to life with the support of the Public Housing Community Fund, L+M Development Partners, and C+C Apartment Management. Thank you to all our partners who have helped make this program happen, including CAMBA, the Salvadori Center, and the Public Housing Community Fund, as well as the folks on the L+M team who volunteered and supported the students throughout the program, including Ahmed Abdelmoneim, Kristina Fibkins, Elli Himelstein, Ayanna Oliver-Taylor, Gingi Pica, Barak Shiner and Adam Watson. https://lnkd.in/dzhCRhUi

Our amazing employees rolled up their sleeves last month at the NYC Parks GreenThumb Garden at Marcus Garvey Apartments. As volunteer gardeners, they worked together to plant seedlings, weed the garden, and helped with composting and mulching! This effort supported GreenThumb’s Living Laboratory Community Garden in Brownsville. This special garden is a hub for outdoor learning, community engagement, and land stewardship, all thanks to the dedicated volunteer gardeners who pour their time and energy into keeping it vibrant and welcoming for everyone. Our team recently joined NYC Department of Parks & Recreation, Bronx Borough President Vanessa L. Gibson, Type A Projects LLC and other policymakers and local leaders to officially reveal a 2.8-acre expansion of Mill Pond Park in the South Bronx. The new park space further connects the community to the Harlem River waterfront, including residents who reside in Bronx Point, the new 542-unit affordable housing development that Type A and L+M opened in October last year. Bronx Point will have community and retail space and is the future home of The Hip Hop Museum. Bronx Point is also an AHF Readers’ Choice Awards finalist. This summer, the 2024 intern cohort toured L+M developments and properties in construction and those completed to get a full picture of how L+M builds stronger communities. The cohort visited LMXD and Ray Harlem’s National Black Theatre, the completed Bronx Point – home to the future The Hip Hop Museum - Essex Crossing on the Lower East Side, Beach Green Dunes III, and the beach-front Arverne East development in Edgemere, Queens, where the group also volunteered at The Campaign Against Hunger’s urban farm. Congrats to L+M Managing Director Jessica Yoon, who was named one of Crain's New York Business Notable Real Estate Leaders 2024. The annual list recognizes leaders “pushing the boundaries of development, design, construction, leasing and sales to keep New York City a vibrant heart of real estate innovation and economic growth.” Jessica was highlighted for her efforts in the completion of Sendero Verde, the largest multifamily affordable passive housing development in the United States. L+M and partners Jonathan Rose Companies and Acacia Network recently held a ribbon cutting ceremony to officially open the mixed-use project. She also developed a curriculum about career paths in real estate development for PENCIL, Inc. and serves on the executive board of Enterprise Gotham Society, a group for young professionals. We’re thrilled that Trader Joe's opened its first Harlem location today at our recently completed 17-story Urban Empowerment Center project at 125 West 125th Street, a mixed-used development in partnership with Taconic Partners, the Prusik Group, and BRP Companies. The property will be home to the National Urban League and the new Urban Civil Rights Museum, New York's first museum dedicated to civil rights. It also has 171 affordable housing units, a portion of which are reserved for youth aging out of foster care. We recently welcomed Nina as our 2024 Kenyon Scholar! A recent graduate from Murray Hill Academy, she was selected to join L+M’s Community Investment Team as a summer intern to further her career goals. The Kenyon Scholars program was established in 2022 in honor of retired L+M Vice Chairperson and Senior Partner Debbie Kenyon’s 29-year tenure at the company and her commitment to philanthropy. The program connects high school students like Nina to professional internship opportunities at L+M to support young talent and foster connections between education and professional experience. Debbie, a longtime proponent of education-related initiatives, spearheaded an effort in 2019 to connect students to L+M’s real estate development work through the PENCIL, Inc. program. PENCIL is where Nina first connected with L+M. Debbie recently met with Nina in-person to discuss her academic and professional goals.
