More and more studies have shown methane emissions are rising, and we must act now. We're glad to see the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA)'s commitment to updating landfill regulations. To limit global warming in the near-term, methane can not only be collected from landfills, but according to a recent essay in The Wall Street Journal, "The Global Methane Assessment estimates that approximately one tenth of anthropogenic methane emissions can be mitigated at 'negative cost,' meaning mitigation would pay for itself if companies acted. Oil-and-gas companies and landfill operators, for instance, can sell or use any methane they collect." LoCI's system creates benefits on all fronts — increasing methane capture from landfills to slow the rate of global warming, while supporting landfill operators and owners with options at negative cost. With methane emissions rising, we need to take collective action to meet The Global Methane Pledge goals. #sustainability #climateaction
Studies like this one underscore the urgent need to dramatically reduce methane emissions now. As the country's third-largest industrial source of methane, landfills represent an enormous opportunity to reign in the super-polluting greenhouse gas. We're thrilled that US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has firmly committed to updating landfill emissions regulations, and eagerly await next steps. https://lnkd.in/eaDPUPXj
