  • Our 2024 Majira Project Summer Mixer on the Vineyard held last week was a huge success! Thank you to all the cohort alumni, coaches, and Majira community who attended. A special thank you again to Valerie Mosley, CFA for hosting us at Villa Rosa! Thank you as well to Delta Dirt Distillery for providing us with drinks and Chef Lori E. for catering. We heard about challenges, opportunities, and successes from cohort alumni from AbsoluteJOI, Boston While Black, and The Nile List, and had a great discussion about access to human, social, intellectual, and financial capital. It was great to see everyone come together to celebrate the progress made by and support the upcoming opportunities for founders and communities of color! --------------------------------------------------------- If you would like to support our mission of community development through entrepreneurship and our vision of economic justice for marginalized communities, see below for ways to help! • Today we celebrate Juneteenth - the day in 1865 when the last enslaved African Americans were finally told they were free. Now it is a national holiday that represents freedom, resilience, and unity. Today we also celebrate our fourth anniversary of Majira’s incorporation as an official nonprofit organization. This is in recognition that despite all of the progress that has been made, there is still work to be done in the ongoing fight for equality. We will continue to work to close the racial wealth gap by cultivating founders, companies, and communities of color through our mission of community development through entrepreneurship. Keep an eye out as we prepare to open the application for our 9th cohort of our flagship accelerator program in partnership with BCG Spark! —————————————————————————————— If you’d like to support our mission and our vision of economic justice for marginalized communities, please share our website where more information is available on our program. Please also consider making a tax-deductible donation to support our work! https://lnkd.in/etFgmpEJ Happy Juneteenth! ❤️💚🖤 #Juneteenth #Equality #FreedomDay #MajiraProject #GrowingSeason

Cohort alumni, Majira coaches, Boston Consulting Group (BCG) consultants, prospective companies, and other Majira colleagues gathered together to mingle and celebrate the Majira community at BCG’s Seaport office. Thank you to our event sponsor, The Eastern Bank Foundation, for helping make this event possible. Thank you as well to BCG for letting us host our mixer in their lovely office space. Thank you to Sol y Sal Boston for their bartending services. A big thank you to our cohort alumni who helped provide delicious refreshments: EVERYBODY GOTTA EAT, Cupcake Therapy, Democracy Brewing, and Love Cork Screw! Last, but not least, thank you to all our attendees and everyone in the Majira community for supporting our mission of community development through entrepreneurship. • In our final speaker session for our 8th cohort, which took place at the end of February as we closed out Black History Month and began Women's History Month, we brought in two Black women trailblazers to discuss leadership, Donna Levin, Co-Founder of Care.com and current CEO of the Arthur M. Blank School for Entrepreneurial Leadership at Babson College, and Erica Hamilton, Founding Director of the Black Leadership Institute and CEO and Co-Founder of The Memo I Never Got (MING). They spoke on a panel moderated by Kerry Bowie. They talked about their career journeys, the leaders that impacted them along the way, and how they used those lessons to become even better leaders themselves. Donna shared how in her current role, she strives to embody an empathetic, compassionate, and values-based leader. These are the same traits her team at Babson’s Entrepreneurial School are researching to instill in their young leaders. Erica discussed how as a leader, she tries to create opportunities and seats at the table for those who may not have access. They closed out speaking about the different roles that leaders play as mentors, sponsors, and champions in order to create more great leaders. And Erica closed with a Napoleon Bonaparte quote often cited by former American Express CEO, Kenneth Chenault, reminding us that “The leader's role is to define reality, then give hope.” Thank you once again to our wonderful speakers; we appreciate Donna and Erica coming in to close out our sessions for this year’s cohort! Be on the lookout for future events from Majira showcasing more stories and insights from remarkable entrepreneurs and leaders! #WomensHistoryMonth #MajiraProject #GrowingSeason

🌟 Celebrating the end of Black History Month and beginning of Women's History Month by reflecting on our commitment to support underrepresented entrepreneurs year-round. More than 90% of our founders are people of color (majority Black) and more than 68% are women. At the Majira Project, we focus on two crucial pillars: Connections and Capital. 📎 Connections: We facilitate meaningful connections for our entrepreneurs, from executive staff recruitments to tech assistance for climate tech prototypes. Over 40% of our companies return to mentor new ones, showcasing the value of our network. 💰 Capital: While not directly involved in all fundraising efforts, our program boosts average revenue by over $500,000 for companies a year after joining. Collectively, our cohort companies have raised over $600 million and created over 1700 job opportunities. 📈 Yet, there's still work to be done. Structural shifts are needed to truly support Black entrepreneurs, women entrepreneurs, and other underrepresented groups. We need to recognize their value, innovation, and contributions year-round. They deserve genuine support and investment throughout the year, and we will continue to do our part to make that happen. If you would like to support our work, please consider making a tax-deductible donation to support our work: https://lnkd.in/g5bUa-U9 #MajiraProject #BlackHistoryMonth #WomensHistoryMonth #GrowingSeason
