This week, Maryland Secretary of Housing & Community Development Jake Day and senior department staff testified before the Senate Education, Energy, and the Environment Committee in Annapolis in support of four transformative bills designed to create stronger, more sustainable communities across the state:
✅Senate Bill 247: Expanding funding options to reduce greenhouse gas emissions in low-income multifamily housing through the MEEHA Greenhouse Gas Reduction Program.
✅ Senate Bill 238: Empowering certified nonprofits to administer local housing rehabilitation programs, improving housing safety and livability for low- and moderate-income homeowners.
✅ Senate Bill 234: Establishing a certification program for homeless shelters to raise operational and safety standards for shelter residents.
✅ Senate Bill 235: Formally establish the Project Restore Program as a state initiative to support small businesses and revitalize vacant storefronts.
These legislative efforts demonstrate Maryland’s commitment to fostering equitable, sustainable, and thriving communities.
