Meet our wonderful team of Donor Center Coordinators! The Donor Center is a remote team of Eye Bank Coordinators that support the multi-service areas of North Carolina, South Carolina, and Austin, Texas. They compassionately serve Donor Families by offering the opportunity of anatomical eye donation to provide sight-restoring corneas for transplant and eyes for research to those in need. This team ensures that every donation is handled with care, every donor family feels valued, and every life touched by their efforts is given hope. Their commitment ripples through the lives of countless individuals and families, bringing comfort and healing in times of need. A tribute to: Sheila Corbin Sheila loved her family more than anything in this world. "She was the strongest woman I ever knew. She was loving, generous, and selfless." says her daughter, Megan. Megan finds great comfort in the fact that due to donation, her mother will live on through someone else. "I am blessed to have had such a great mother and I truly hope whoever received her donation, receives the same strength she embodied." she says. Meet Claudia Hallagan: Donor Center Supervisor! Claudia joined MIS in September 2022 with multiple years of experience in donation and eye banking, where she excelled in various roles. "Being in the Donor Center is rewarding in itself: bringing a little bit of light to an otherwise very dark day for families is so powerful and it brings me back every day." she says. When asked about her experience at MIS, she stated "one of my favorite things about MIS is the freedom to think and act on my own. MIS encourages critical thinking and supports me in personal and professional growth.". Outside of work Claudia loves to garden, bake bread, hike, fish, read and carve her own stamps! She is also crazy about her avian family! #MIS #MeetTheTeam #EmployeeSpotlight #DonorCenter

August is National Minority Donor Awareness Month (NMDAM) – a collaborative effort to save & improve the quality of life of diverse communities by creating a positive culture for organ, eye & tissue donation. Why is NMDAM needed? 60% of national transplant waiting list patients are from multicultural communities. The need for donation and transplant is more pronounced in minority communities where disproportionately higher rates of diabetes, high blood pressure and heart disease contribute to organ failure, especially kidney failure. You can find resources to share and read more about NMDAM at nmag1.org and DonateLife.net 💙💚 #MIS #DonateLife #NMDAM2024
