ICYMI: Last week, our work to recruit pro-democracy candidates was highlighted by Mark Z. Barabak of the Los Angeles Times. We are proud of the success of our program, Contest Every Race and will continue to recruit down ballot candidates so that Democrats are competitive everywhere. #contesteveryrace

We are glad to see the work of Contest Every Race highlighted in Los Angeles Times thanks to the work of Mark Z. Barabak. It is important to center local elections in conversations about free and fair elections. Contest Every Race Executive Director Lauren Gepford and her team know that when voter's don't have choices at the ballot, they also don't have any protection from dangerous ideologues getting into office. "The philosophy here is that extremism thrives and builds and grows when we don't put up a fight and when we allow ourselves to have a really unrepresentative democracy." But Contest Every Race is working to fix that- with 7,000 recruited candidates and counting. Contest Every Race candidate, Lucas Reinke says it best. "I just want to make sure everyone in the county has the ability to vote for the candidate they think can do the best job and do so without fear of intimidation or retribution.."
