We were delighted to be cordially invited to the official opening of Mulberry Academy London Dock by Her Majesty The Queen today. During her visit, The Queen toured the state-of-the-art Passivhaus co-educational school, engaging with students, staff, and key delivery partners to hear how the school is empowering young people to build successful, fulfilling futures while making a meaningful impact on the local community. See how she got on here: https://ow.ly/7Wos50UTsJS Currently open to its first cohort of year 7 students, the 1150 student co-educational school was initially handed to London Borough of Tower Hamlets by our London & Thames Valley business in 2024. Partly funded by the Department for Education and now managed by the Mulberry Schools Trust, the school is one of the first Passivhaus secondary schools in the UK. Designed by Architype, it represents a milestone in sustainable, innovative design and construction delivery. Mulberry Academy London Docks receives Passivhaus Certification. Architype, Rory Martin, Hugh Pearce are absolutely thrilled to announce that Mulberry Academy London Dock has officially received its Passivhaus certification, presented by Will South from Etude. Amazing work from everyone involved in the project. In celebration, the project team were treated to a fabulous meal hosted by John Bolton and Malcolm Emmerson from Kier Construction. A brilliant piece of news to receive ahead of Her Royal Highness Queen Camilla's official visit to the school next week.

As the newest secondary school in the Mulberry Schools Trust family, Mulberry Academy London Dock is committed to providing exceptional education and enriching extra-curricular opportunities that inspire confidence, creativity and leadership. During the visit, The Queen will tour the school, meet students and staff, key partners and hear how we are equipping young people with the skills and knowledge to lead successful, fulfilling lives while making a positive impact on their community and beyond. Students across all eight Mulberry Schools Trust schools were invited to take part in a competition to design this year’s Christmas card, shared annually by Dr Vanessa Ogden CBE, CEO of the Trust.   The creativity and talent on display were exceptional, with five finalists selected for their inspiring designs. We are delighted to join with Kier Construction to mark the Practical Completion of Mulberry Academy London Dock, a new school designed to serve the Wapping community, with its inaugural Year 7 cohort. This school reflects the Mulberry Schools Trust's commitment to ensuring outstanding achievement for all and it will be a central part of the community. Our successful partnerships with Kier, Tower Hamlets Council and the Department for Education have been vital in realising this vision, and we are excited to see how our exceptional new school will support the growth and development of young people and the local area for years to come. Our founding students have just taken part in an action-packed week of trips and activities for their 'Year 7 Discovery Week: A journey through time, place and community'. This exciting week of learning enabled students to familiarise themselves with the history of the area and the docks, where they discovered ‘The story of our river’ with a trip to the London Museum Docklands, navigating the Canary Wharf Art Trail and exploring the Cross-Rail Place Roof Gardens; they reflected on ‘Where our time begins’ with a trip to Greenwich including the Royal Observatory to understand the significance of the Prime Meridian as well as climbing on board the Cutty Sark; they toured the 'History of the Tower of London' deciding if the Tower deserves its ‘gory reputation’; they travelled to Goresfield Rural Studies and Outdoor Activity Centre 'Learning to work together' by building shelters and campfires and trekking through the area; and finally they developed 'Skills for life' with Mini First Aid for Teens learning how to carry out CPR and deal with choking, head injuries, burns, breaks, bleeding, asthma attacks and allergic reactions. If that wasn't enough, they also took part in a maths challenge to assess our new school building estimating its height and area, and calculating the volume, reflecting on the importance of this in architecture! What a brilliant first week of secondary school!
