This report underscores what we know all too well by now: women in southeastern states are dying at disproportionately high rates from preventable causes such as pregnancy and treatable chronic conditions, including mental health issues, with undeniable racial disparities. As leaders, we're tired of hearing of this worsening crisis. Solutions like Nest Health must be implemented to make significant strides for women and families nationwide — solutions that encompass comprehensive health care for the whole person, addressing their physical, mental, and social well-being, as well as that of their families. A new Commonwealth Fund scorecard comparing state health system performance on women’s health and reproductive care reveals significant disparities across the U.S. In particular, researchers, Sara Collins, David Radley, Shreya Roy, PhD, Laurie Zephyrin, and Arnav Shah, find wide gaps between geographic regions and between racial and ethnic groups in deaths among women of reproductive age and in access to essential health services. The 2024 State Scorecard on Women’s Health and Reproductive Care is the Fund’s first comprehensive examination of women’s health care in all 50 states and the District of Columbia, based on the latest available data. Among the key findings: 📉 States with abortion restrictions have fewer maternity care providers. 📈 Rates of maternal deaths are highest in the Mississippi Delta region, which includes Arkansas, Louisiana, Mississippi, and Tennessee. 📊 Regional disparities in deaths of women of reproductive age are pronounced, with the highest death rates seen in the Southeast. The report raises concerns over the state of women’s health care and the ripple effects of the Supreme Court’s 2022 decision overturning Roe v. Wade. Its findings suggest that disparities could widen, with impacts experienced most acutely by women of color and women with low income who live in states that have restricted access to comprehensive reproductive care.

At Nest Health, we provide children and adolescents the specialized care they need from a team trained to work with...children and adolescents. That care includes primary pediatric care like well visits and immunizations, as well as sick visits for rashes, colds, & more. But it also includes developmental screenings and treatment for prevalent diagnoses like autism, ADHD, and other behavioral health conditions. Plus, a key component of our value-based care model is immediate access to specialists. The pediatrician shortage is impacting families who are already facing great barriers to care. We're addressing this head on. This is such an important topic. Thank you, Aaron E. Carroll, for writing. https://lnkd.in/gs-jqBBQ.

With Nest, families no longer need to take the 2 and a half hours out of their day to go to just one doctor's visit. The Nest care team will take care of you and your entire family right in the comfort of your own home, when you need it. No more: ❌ Waiting in crowded rooms full of sick people ❌ Driving across town to multiple visits ❌ Deprioritizing yourself to take care of your child's health ❌ Taking time off and feeling the hit on your pay check So many families in the U.S. are facing barriers to keeping themselves and their families healthy. Here at Nest, we're removing those barriers.

Earlier this week, VP Harris shared updates two years after releasing the Blue Print for Addressing the Maternal Health Crisis, proposing policies to reduce maternal mortality, advance health equity, and support underserved communities alongside U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) and Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services. This holds such great weight with me as I lead Nest Health, the first value-based healthcare provider bringing comprehensive care to whole families at home. 💡 My key takeaways: 1️⃣ Care must be comprehensive: The updates emphasize the point that the well-being of mothers directly impacts the health of entire families. I've been saying this for a long time now: families experience health together, period. If we're taking care of mom, we need to take care of mom's family. And that includes the whole family's mental health. 2️⃣ Access and equity are key: Many families on Medicaid face significant barriers in accessing quality care. Dismantling those barriers, expanding beyond the "four walls" and providing resources that are culturally appropriate addresses these disparities head-on. This is woven into the fabric of what we're building here at Nest. 3️⃣ It's time for care delivery innovation: The current system doesn't work for all families — the call to leverage new care models is loud and clear, and not just for the few. By utilizing home-based, telehealth, and mobile services for families on Medicaid, we extend our reach, bringing essential care directly into the homes of those who are otherwise not able to access care. 4️⃣ Progress requires collaboration: The report calls for collaboration among stakeholders, including healthcare providers, policymakers, and community organizations. This collective effort is essential to create sustainable models that truly serve the needs of our most vulnerable populations. Partnerships are key. These are all crucial markers that what we're building at Nest Health is needed now to drive real change for America's most vulnerable families. https://lnkd.in/gZHY6rJv #HealthEquity #Medicaid #CMS #HHS #MaternalHealth

July is #BIPOCMentalHealthMonth, inspired by the founding story of Bebe Campbell, an advocate who recognized the need to address mental health disparities among Black, Indigenous, and People of Color. Bebe's vision continues to inspire today as we work towards greater understanding and tangible resources for the BIPOC community. First, it's important to understand the realities faced by BIPOC individuals when it comes to mental health: 1️⃣ Stigma: Stigma surrounding mental health remains a significant barrier for Black people, with only about 25% seeking mental health care compared to 40% of white individuals, as reported by NAMI. 2️⃣ Access: Access to mental health services is disproportionately limited for BIPOC individuals, who are more likely to live in mental health professional shortage areas and face financial barriers to care. According to the American Psychological Association, only 1 in 3 Black adults who need mental health care receives it, compared to 1 in 2 white adults. 3️⃣ Health Equity: Research from the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) shows that racial and ethnic minorities are less likely to receive diagnosis and treatment for their mental health conditions, contributing to poorer health outcomes and disparities in mental health care access. Here in the Nest, we recognize that addressing these disparities requires deep commitment to both delivering culturally competent care and breaking down barriers that BIPOC individuals may face when seeking care. So this month we're proud to spotlight our Mental Health Specialist, Patrice Hammond, who collaborates every day with our medical care team to ensure our families are getting the whole-person care they need to thrive. Thank you, Patrice!
