NYPA is the nation's largest state power organization, serving government, not-for-profit, and business customers.
About us
The New York Power Authority is the nation's largest state public power organization, with 16 generating facilities and more than 1,400 circuit-miles of transmission lines. More than 70 percent of the electricity we produce is clean renewable hydropower. NYPA is a leader in promoting energy efficiency, new energy technologies and electric transportation initiatives. Our lower-cost power production and electricity purchases support hundreds of thousands of jobs throughout the state. Our business customers range from Fortune 100 giants competing in international markets to small manufacturing or service firms that are vital to local economies. We sell power to government agencies; to community-owned electric systems and rural electric cooperatives; to job-producing companies; to private utilities for resale—without profit—to their customers; and to neighboring states, under federal requirements. #ICYMI: Recently, our NYC Legislative & Community Affairs team participated in two events to help celebrate #ClimateWeek. The first event was Street Work Earth, a free street arts & climate action festival, where the community was able to learn about environmental and climate action and the various community programs that NYPA has. Our team also took part in the Queens Climate Expo at the New York Hall of Science, which hosted several climate, environment & renewable energy organizations to share #ClimateWeekNYC information and promote STEMocracy. We were able to educate attendees on #hydropower, development of clean energy infrastructure, transmission, progress on #EV infrastructure and more. All in all, a fantastic week with our neighbors!

It was an electrifying evening at the "Power of Community" event in Astoria. NYPA joined Variety Boys & Girls Club of Queens CEO Costa Constantinides and fellow awardees Rise Light & Power, 174 Power Global, Con Edison, Hydro Québec & Champlain Hudson Power Express in celebrating the work we’ve done together this year. Our President and CEO Justin E. Driscoll was honored to receive Variety Boys & Girls Club of Queens’s Albert "Cubby" Broccoli Award on behalf of NYPA in recognition of the work NYPA does in the communities where we operate. We're proud to be a part of the community and #cleanenergy transition in the #EmpireState.

Congratulations Qing Wei!
The Utility Analytics Institute (UAI) features a highly engaged, outstanding individual in our monthly Member Spotlight. This month, September 2024, we were fortunate to feature Qing Wei from New York Power Authority and thank her for all she's done for the #UAI Community! Read a short snippet of our interview with Qing below. UAI Members can read the full interview today on UAI Connect: UAI: How did you get into the utility analytics industry? Qing: I hold a PhD degree in social science with a specialization on quantitative data analysis. After graduating, I have worked in multiple non-profit organizations and government entities and led many data analytical projects ranging from analyzing human resources data to creating predictive models for unsafe buildings. In 2018, I joined New York Power Authority as a lead data scientist and began my journey on utility analytics. UAI: If you could go back in time and give yourself one piece of advice before entering the utility analytics industry, what would it be? Qing: Talking to the engineers as often as possible, understanding their needs and explaining how data analytics could be used to solve utility problems. UAI: What would you like to talk to fellow colleagues and members about in UAI Connect? Or, what issues or topics would you like to see more discussions on in UAI Connect? Qing: I would like to see more discussion on analytics relating asset health, particularly on predictive maintenance and how to incorporate both expert/experience based model and AI/ML. Members of UAI can again read the full interview today on UAI Connect. We were honored to be named a #topinnovator alongside our utility colleagues at Con Edison, Southern Company, Southern California Edison (SCE) Edison, Exelon and others as part of Public Utilities Fortnightly Top Innovators competition. NYPA's pioneering efforts to help transform the MTA's fleet of 5,700 buses - the largest in the US - to zero-emission vehicles brought home the 2024 William Hammer Top Innovator Award in electrification. We're proud of our #EVolveNY team and to be leading the #charge in NYS to increase #electricvehicle infrastructure and technology and bring #NewYorkState's #electrification goals to life. https://lnkd.in/eWEquKSj
