NYPA is the nation's largest state power organization, serving government, not-for-profit, and business customers.
About us
The New York Power Authority is the nation's largest state public power organization, with 16 generating facilities and more than 1,400 circuit-miles of transmission lines. More than 70 percent of the electricity we produce is clean renewable hydropower. NYPA is a leader in promoting energy efficiency, new energy technologies and electric transportation initiatives. Our lower-cost power production and electricity purchases support hundreds of thousands of jobs throughout the state. Our business customers range from Fortune 100 giants competing in international markets to small manufacturing or service firms that are vital to local economies. We sell power to government agencies; to community-owned electric systems and rural electric cooperatives; to job-producing companies; to private utilities for resale—without profit—to their customers; and to neighboring states, under federal requirements. New York reached a Climate Leadership and Community Protection Act (CLPCA) goal a year ahead of schedule today as Governor Hochul announced that 6 gigawatts (GW) of distributed solar have been installed across #NYS. The #solar power generation benefits homes, business owners and off-takers of community solar projects and is enough to power more than a million homes. “Today’s milestone is a testament to the power of strong partnerships in advancing distributed solar projects across NYS. NYPA is committed to working with municipalities, school districts, and state entities to build a portfolio of projects that reduce #greenhouse gas emissions and provide energy savings for our customers.” -NYPA President and CEO Justin E. Driscoll https://lnkd.in/eJQS94v3

#ICYMI: During #NationalDriveElectricWeek, our #EVolveNY team took part in several exciting events showcasing the future of #eMobility! At the Central Hudson Ride & Drive, we drew an impressive crowd, with over 300 registered participants and many walk-ups. Guests engaged in test drives and learned about EV charging options, fostering a deeper understanding of #electricvehicles. Similarly, at the Orange and Rockland Utilities, Inc. Ride & Drive event in Middletown, we welcomed over 200 visitors eager to learn about electric vehicles. The atmosphere was filled with enthusiasm as attendees connected directly with #EV owners and experts, receiving firsthand insights into the comfort and benefits of going electric. Both events highlighted the growing interest in EVs and the importance of community engagement in making sustainable choices. We’re thrilled to see such enthusiasm and look forward to more opportunities to educate and inspire!

We’re thrilled to announce the completion of three #rooftopsolar systems at RED HOOK CENTRAL SCHOOL DISTRICT, made possible through a $1.7M investment by NYPA. These systems have a combined capacity of 600 kilowatts and will generate over 630 megawatt-hours of #energy annually, supplying more than 30% of the district's #electricity. This initiative supports #NewYork's goal of achieving 70% #renewableenergy by 2030 and transitioning to a carbon-free grid by 2040. Additionally, the district stands to gain nearly $80,000 in utility credits each year while reducing #greenhousegasemissions by approximately 80 metric tons—equivalent to removing nearly 9,000 gallons of gasoline from the road. Led by Director of DER Advisory Benjamin M. Cuozzo, our Distributed Energy Resources (DER) team played a crucial role in managing these projects. By partnering with local schools and communities, we're paving the way for a #sustainable future through renewable energy. “NYPA’s partnership with Red Hook schools’ reflects our shared commitment to sustainability and teaching the next generation about climate action. Working with the Red Hook District has been extremely rewarding for NYPA, and the new solar energy systems will reduce greenhouse gas emissions and energy costs for the district.” -NYPA President and CEO Justin E. Driscoll https://lnkd.in/ehi6q6Eb

We're making progress and moving forward; the NYS Public Service Commission approved our application to create the Renewable Energy Access and Community Help (REACH) program to provide #electric bill credits for low-income households in disadvantaged communities across the state. https://lnkd.in/ejExJQQc “REACH will directly benefit low-income electric ratepayers in disadvantaged communities using #renewable generation from distributed #energy sources in their communities or from large-scale renewable projects located throughout the state’s electric power grid." -NYPA CEO Justin E. Driscoll Learn more about REACH and NYPA’s expanded authority to develop renewables, facilitate a just transition away from fossil fuel, and support workforce development in our draft Strategic Plan, and also share your comments here: https://lnkd.in/enChqij9
