Last week, we celebrated our summer intern, Sandy (second from left), who helped us capture wonderful health education content in Spanish, which we will be releasing soon! We also are grateful for the work our Medicaid Expansion Regional Support Specialists are doing to connect people to care (Robyn, left; Alison, second from right; with manager April Morgan, right). The White House and the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) have demonstrated their prioritization of the crucial task of addressing health equity through health-related social needs. These social factors, such as housing, and access to nutritious food, play a significant role in shaping individuals' health and well-being. By focusing on these factors, we can make a positive impact on improving health outcomes for all. Here in North Carolina, the Healthy Opportunities Pilots (HOP) program is doing just that. Through HOP, NC Medicaid has implemented 28 CMS-approved services aimed at addressing food insecurity, housing instability, transportation insecurity and interpersonal safety and toxic stress. Since March 2022, more than 420,000 services have been provided, helping to address housing move-in support, transportation vouchers, and healthy food boxes (and more) to over 24,000 Medicaid members (as of May 31). By addressing the social determinants of health, NCDHHS is working to have a lasting positive impact on the lives of many more North Carolinians and improve health outcomes across the state. #Healthcare #SocialDriversOfHealth #Equity #CMS #WhiteHouse #HealthcareInnovation #CommunityHealth Read more: https://lnkd.in/ehjAJGsr

Our partners at Hispanic Federation - NC are happy to announce a funding opportunity of $10,000 grants for ten NC Latine-led* non-profits working to improve health outreach and education in rural Latine communities. HF also seeks to enhance the use of HF-NC’s bilingual Hotline, which assists with Medicaid and ACA information, enrollment support, and finding low-cost or free health resources. Eligible organizations are encouraged to apply to further their impact on rural Latine communities in North Carolina. For more information and to apply, please visit: https://bit.ly/4f7kkdH . July is Disability Pride Month, which honors the resilience, achievements, and unique experiences of individuals with disabilities while raising awareness about the challenges they face daily. As we embrace inclusivity, it's essential to reflect on the intersection between disability rights and healthcare, and how we can build a more equitable and accessible health care system for all. We’re so grateful to have Dr. Daniella Jaimes-Colina, Ph.D. on our board!
Dr. Daniella Jaimes-Colina, CEO of Piedmont Health Services (PHS), visited our clinic in Durham and was so full of energy and excitement for the work we are doing. Her enthusiasm was contagious as she walked through our clinic noting the warm and welcoming environment. When we went outside to our therapeutic green space, she became so excited by the stream that she kicked off her heels and jumped in!!!! She is really so full of life and fun to be with! We talked about culturally engaging families and therapeutic spaces. I look forward to the continued conversation with this visionary leader and celebrate her new position as the head of PHS!
