Por el Pueblo recognizes Montoya’s contributions as a founder and leader of the Chicano Arts Movement of the 60’s and 70’s when printmaking was emerging as an accessible and efficient method for activist artists. Known best for his silkscreen print posters, his work laden with social justice themes is contextualized with contemporary artists who are uplifting marginalized queer and Chicana voices and perspectives.
