Makers of radical gear. Co-founders of Climate Neutral. A happy bunch of weirdos since 2011.

About us

Peak Design makes award-winning bags, camera accessories, and an ecosystem of rugged phone mounts. We design truly radical gear, unparalleled in thoughtfulness, and have managed to build an equally radical company in our 12+ years of doing business. We have zero outside investors, crowdfund massively ambitious products, speak our mind on environmental matters, are totally carbon neutral (co-founded Climate Neutral!), are a certified B Corp, and give 1% of our gross revenue to environmental nonprofits through our 1% For The Planet membership. Peak Design exists to provide happy, meaningful lives for the people who work here. Our six-point mission allows us to achieve that purpose: 1. Make the best things 2. Succeed at the expense of nobody 3. Treat our customers as peers 4. Offset our environmental impact 5. Use our voice to inspire positive change 6. Prioritize happiness over growth

Ladies and Gentlemen...start your engines. Kickstarter 12 is live. I know MOST people here don't ride a motorcycle. But for those who do, and those who like to have things that are the best of their kind...you're going to love this. The technical and regulatory challenge to create a mechanically locking, magnetically aided Qi2 certified wireless charger was probably the most difficult project we've ever worked on at Peak Design. Special thanks for Sam Girvin and Wheeler Gans from the PD engineering team for having the guts to take it on, commit to a timeline, and make it happen. Do us a solid, and let the folks you know who get their kicks on two wheels about this product. thanks folks! pd

Ted Hesser is a guy who's been the orbit of Peak Design for a long time. To say we've been pals isn't quite right… A few friendly handshakes, some brief chats, and a general admiration for each other's work, mostly from a distance. But when Ted made the switch from Adventure photography and alpinism to an intellectually focused podcasting, I knew enough to be honored that he wanted to have me as a guest. I think this was my first filmed podcast, so it's available on both YouTube and Spotify. If you're wondering why in the hell you'd want to watch a podcast, I'm with you. But Ted's got the creative and production and creative chops to somehow maybe make it worth your while. Ted Hesser, thanks for taking the time to really get to know Peak over the years. I'm always a bit surprised to hear that people on the outside of the company really do somehow gain insight to the unique way we go about our business. It's appreciated. pd https://lnkd.in/eWxqJHwB https://lnkd.in/ePJHHUZa

We're stoked to announce that we've partnered with our friends at The Roam Collective LLC to support The Roam Media Core. The Roam Media Core is a mentorship program that will pair up-and-coming femme creatives with seasoned pros who can offer the tutelage and networking needed to launch a full-time career in the industry. Most programs of this nature focus on creative and technical skills — which is undoubtedly important — but breaking into the industry takes more than that. From networking, to learning how to pitch projects, to advice on billing and invoicing, Roam Media Core is about jumpstarting sustainable careers. Who It's For: - Female/femme photographers, filmmakers, and writers who aspire to be full-time creative professionals in the outdoor or action sports industries. - Folks who already have strong technical skillsets and creative talent who are looking to finally ‘break into’ the industry. - Must be based in the US and able to attend Roam Fest in Fruita, CO from September 20-22. How It Works: - Apply between now and May 15th via the form linked below. - Five winners will be jointly announced on May 28th by PD & The Roam Collective. - Between June and August, participants will engage in virtual workshops with badass mentors. - From September 20-22, participants will attend Roam Fest in Fruita, CO for hands-on skill-building at the world’s dopest femme mountain biking festival. If you or someone you know would be a great fit for this, we'd love to see your application! https://lnkd.in/eumZRXye

"Progress over perfection." If you've been following us for awhile, you've heard us say this phrase before, and you'll hear us say it again. In the words of Annie, our Head of Environmental and Social Impact: "While perfection has its place, ‘perfect or bust’ shares some genetics with zero-sum, left-right, good-evil frameworks; frameworks that often capture the spotlight and our attention but rarely capture the full picture or offer viable solutions." We constantly strive to build a more ethical and sustainable business, and we don't always do things perfectly. But when we do misstep, we own up to it, learn from it, and keep moving forward. Our 2023 Impact Report is a transparent look at what we're doing to be a more responsible business, and a few things we could be doing even better. Read through it now at the link below. https://lnkd.in/gHx3we7K

I have to say… I'm not sure social media has ever provided me with such delight as it did when receiving this unsolicited compliment. David Lancefield, very grateful for your kind words, but I'm even more grateful that you seem to have gleaned that my email was something worth sharing. It's tricky… I've been on the inside of this company since I started it about 14 years ago, and those of us here certainly feel that it is special. But it's hard to convey that to the outside world, so perhaps suffice it to say, I (and the team) really appreciate the pat on the back. While I do think what we are doing at Peak Design as unique, a look under the hood will reveal no strokes of genius. It more closely resembles a simple application of the things we were all supposed to learn on the playground in elementary school. Be good to the people around you, and most likely… They will be good to you. That's not all there is to it, but that's a lot of it. pd

I'll admit to a few eye-rolls when I read some statements on culture and ethics. A bit too much, divorced from reality, theatrical. But then I read this one. I just bought a tripod from Peak Design on the excellent advice of my good friend Richard Bistrong. I received the usual admin emails, containing shipping details and then the receipt. I didn't expect to receive an email from the company founder Peter Dering. It felt personal, real. No fluff. Giving me a clear sense of the company I had just bought a product from. I thought it was rather brilliant. Here are some statements I liked: - 'We have no revenue goals or product launch deadlines. No wasted time with budgets and Powerpoint decks to appease outsiders. We take as much time as necessary to design gear that we're confident is literally the best out there.' - 'We ensure that the workers in our partners' factories are treated fairly. They're paid higher than average, with safe working conditions and humane hours.' - 'We treat our customers as peers. If you ask us a question, we'll tell you the answer, openly and honestly.' - 'We're 100% carbon neutral, and we started a nonprofit that's helped 330 other businesses (and counting!) do the same. We donate 1% of our revenue to environmental causes. - 'Lastly, we speak up for what we believe in, and when we do, we seek to understand all sides of the issue. We think everybody should do that.' *** How well do you articulate your purpose and culture, especially to your customers? #strategy #leadership #culture #purpose

We're thrilled to announce that we've become a Pinnacle Member of The Conservation Alliance, pledging $100,000 this year to support their crucial work. We first joined TCA back in 2016 and in the 8 years since, they've shown us time and time again how capable the outdoor industry is of affecting positive change through coordinated efforts. Our increased commitment from years past will support their highly diversified grantmaking portfolio, corporate advocacy program, and core operational expenses, and we can't wait to see what we can accomplish together in the years to come. https://lnkd.in/gJ-ubtR3
