Creating a positive start in life for infants and children, many of whom have developmental delays or disabilities.
About us
A leader in child development, Penfield Children's Center creates a positive start in life for infants and children, many of whom have developmental delays or disabilities, by providing early education, health services and family programming. To carry out its mission, Penfield delivers research-based programs at the critical time of early brain development when physical, cognitive, language, social, and self-help skills are formed. Penfield Children’s Center is named in honor of Dr. Wilder Penfield (1891-1976), a world-renowned neurosurgeon who strongly advocated early intervention for children with developmental delays and disabilities. His quote, “never underestimate the capacity of the very young, and never, never let them down,” has been the foundation of Penfield’s mission since 1967. His knowledge and wisdom underlie our philosophy of care for infants and young children even today. Today, serving more than 1,700 children annually, Penfield offers high quality integrated services and a safe and stimulating environment for children, families and community partners to maximize early development and learning. Follow Penfield Children's Center on social media at penfieldchildren.org/social.

We are honored to announce that Penfield Children's Center has been selected as one of six local nonprofits to benefit from this year's TMJ4 News Community Baby Shower. In partnership with WaterStone Bank, this initiative encourages community members to donate essential baby items throughout January to support families in Milwaukee County. Yesterday, we had the privilege of hosting Susan Kim for a visit, where she learned more about the impactful work of our prenatal support program, Growing Together. The tour offered a firsthand look at how we help families thrive—and included some heartwarming baby snuggles! We are grateful for this opportunity to collaborate with TMJ4 and WaterStone Bank to bring vital resources to our community. In today's ✨Mission Moments✨ we meet Rose! Rose, a sweet 2 1/2-year-old, loves coloring, puzzles, and all things Paw Patrol. However, as of March this year, Rose wasn't speaking at all. Since beginning her journey with our Speech Language Pathologist, Rachel, in our Birth to 3 Program, she has made incredible strides. Now, Rose has a vocabulary of over 50 words and is already starting to put two words together. Previously relying on gestures for communication, she now calls "momma" to get her mother's attention and confidently identifies various colors, foods, and beloved Paw Patrol characters! Rose is blooming, and we are thrilled to be part of her amazing journey.
