A full house and a system-wide audience! More than 500 team members joined us both in person and virtually for our Children’s Wisconsin town hall, which was filled with meaningful conversations, recognition and a few surprises. Gil Peri, President and CEO opened the event by sharing one of his favorite quotes from Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. in honor of MLK Day. The event also highlighted the incredible work our staff is doing, including Demetrius, a Public Safety Officer who was recognized for his compassionate response in assisting a visitor in distress. These town halls focus on open dialogue, connection and celebrating the individuals who make a difference every day. We are already looking forward to the next one!

Larisa Broglie, MD, and Julie-An Talano, MD, are changing the lives of kids with sickle cell disease. For a bone marrow transplant to have the best chance of being successful, the donor needs to be a full match. As recently as 10 years ago, a half-match wasn’t viable. But thanks to the work of Dr. Broglie, Dr. Talano and colleagues at nine other cancer centers in the United States, that’s changing. Read this blog post to learn more about how our doctors are offering life-changing bone marrow transplants to kids who previously wouldn’t have had the option — and about one incredible young boy who has been given a second chance to be a kid. We were proud to sponsor Milwaukee Hmong New Year, and we had the incredible opportunity to connect with the Hmong community through a powerful collaborative project with local Hmong artist Koaly Lo of Moonlight Hmong Designs. Together, we created a meaningful mural that celebrates gratitude and community strength. Inspired by traditional Hmong story cloths and the symbolic "elephant's footprint" design representing family and resilience, our booth invited families to share what they're grateful for in 2024 or wish for in 2025.

Switching from adult to pediatric care might seem daunting, but for Jodi, it was an exciting and rewarding change. As a registered technologist, she received on-the-job training that helped her not only learn pediatric protocols but also embrace new skills — like singing to her patients! “The biggest challenge was getting comfortable with being goofy and singing to help kids hold still for their tests,” she said. “Singing through a microphone with other techs, nurses, doctors and even parents around was intimidating at first, but it’s all about making the kids feel safe.” What’s most rewarding? “Kids are so resilient! We’re making a difference in their lives and helping them through their hardest times. The collaboration with physicians and nurses is phenomenal, unlike anything I experienced in the adult world.” Are you interested in making the switch from adult care to pediatrics? When it comes to helping babies heal and thrive, there really is no place like home. And that's what inspired Julie Lavoie, PhD, AC-PNP, to start the Enteral Feeding Program at Children’s Wisconsin. In the past, premature babies would often spend weeks or months in the hospital as they learned to feed. But thanks to Dr. Lavoie and the Enteral Feeding Program, many of these babies are able to grow and develop at home while continuing to be closely monitored by their care team. Read this blog post to learn more about this unique program and how it’s helping babies go home faster than ever. https://lnkd.in/gt9RsQqf
