Happy National Coming Out Day! 🏳️🌈 Today we want to celebrate our Latine community, no matter what their coming out journey looks like. We recognize the unique experiences our LGBTQIA+ Latine community often have to navigate on this journey, such as; - Family acceptance - Being undocu-queer - Language barriers - Reconciling faith and religion Whether you’re out and proud, discovering yourself, or are unable to do so safely, we stand with you.

Thank you to the Women's Media Center for recognizing our work to help Latinos understand ourselves, each other, and the world around us across Instagram, TikTok, Meta, our podcast In Confianza and our weekly newsletter. Big love too all the awardees!

Last week, I was honored to receive one of the Women's Media Center’s 2024 WMC Progressive Women’s Voices Impact Awards along with Rahna Epting who leads MoveOn and Jenice Fountain who leads the Yellowhammer Fund A ✨pinch me✨ moment if there ever was one! WMC's what: to raise the visibility, viability and decision-making power of women and girls in media. Their Why: Media shapes us, informs our ideas, policies and politics. Pulso’s Social Media Manager Jossalyn Collado joined me for this power-women-filled night as we heard from the brilliant and inspiring correspondent Yamiche Alcindor, producers Chicken & Egg Pictures, director Donna Deitch and actress America Ferrera who were also being awarded. We also got to meet WMC co-founders and legends Jane Fonda and Gloria Steinem (more ✨pinches✨!) Mil gracias to "bad ass Boricua" Erica Gonzalez Vice Chair of WMC for presenting me my award, and to the lovely Kate McCarthy for making this recognition possible! Will leave you with a bit of my speech before I let you keep scrolling: “As the daughter of a Venezuelan single mom, immigrant journalist to the United States, media making for my people is in my blood. But forecasting budgets … and persuading millionaires that Latinos are worth investing in was not the media making I thought I’d be doing. But, since to most who are making media, my community is invisible...we have to build the media ourselves.” 📸: Cindy Ord & Craigg Barritt, Getty Images

✨ Sharing exciting *Pulso* news! ✨ Over the last ten days, the United States and Venezuela, the two countries I love most, have given us a lesson in leadership. About a long term mission over short term goals. About defending the truth at all costs. About when to transition the work to new leaders ready to take the baton. It's been hard to concentrate on anything else, really, but I didn't want the month to end without sharing that at Pulso, we’ve been going through a transition of our own. I’m ELATED to share that as of July 1st, 2024, Project Pulso, Inc (501c3) and Project Pulso, Action (501c4) are officially in business! To take us into this next chapter we have a remarkable team and, for the first time, a full leadership bench of BRILLIANT women leading the way! Allow me to introduce you to: Krysta Villeda, our Chief of Staff for the last three years who has been promoted to Chief Operating Officer. Krysta has been the force driving our culture and operations work and this transition to independence is possible because of her leadership. She’ll continue to oversee our operations, and now also oversee our Product and Growth teams led by Erica Rios who brings a background in tech and a wealth of product knowledge, and Sabrina Torres, who brings versatile marketing and digital know-how, to our work. Working closely with me and leading on the content front is Kat Lazo, who brings her sharp creative instincts, producing, and hosting chops to breathe new life into our history, pop culture and upcoming personal content centering Latinos’ experiences. As for me, I’ll be stepping out of the Executive Director role and stepping into scaling our reach and impact as CEO of Pulso. I can’t tell you all how excited THE ENTIRE Pulso team is about what we’re brewing for this next chapter! A few notes of gratitude before letting you all get back to your day: -To Accelerate Change Network for the vision that made Pulso possible and the mutual growth and support over the last six years. Exiting fiscal sponsorship doesn’t mean we’re going anywhere. We’ll still be collaborating with AC and the entire slate of media partners that form part of the NowMedia network. -To Open Society Foundations for their extremely generous recent contribution to Pulso, making them the FIRST funder to support us as an independent organization. Can't end this without a Call to Action, right?! I invite you to click the link below to let us know how we can work together to propel our mission of helping Latinos understand themselves, each other, and the world around them: https://lnkd.in/gTawdWw8

This past weekend, our Founder Liz Rebecca Alarcón completed LBAN/Latino Business Action Network’s 9 week executive education program for business scaling at Stanford University Graduate School of Business. During those two months she learned from 🔝Stanford professors and other facilitators about: 💥Improving finances 💥Leveling up org culture 💥Fundamentals of sales 💥Certification opportunities 💥And got access to capital Pulso now joins a group of: 🎓 1,200 alum 🎓Whose businesses bring in more than $10billion in revenue 🎓 Give much better benefits than non-Latino employers 🎓And employ thousands of Latinos across the country Our Head of Product Erica Rios was able to join the closing networking reception in person, too. Always love when our remote team gets to hang IRL! We’re excited for how all these learnings will help us scale our impact in the year(s) to come!

We had a great time being "Presente" with our friends Poderistas at their town hall in Chicago this week! It was so inspiring to hear from Latinas about the issues that matter to them, from immigration reform to the economy, and how we have been and can continue to build our own safety net with community ties and social support. ✨

The history of the Puerto Rican flag is rich and symbolic, reflecting the island's complex heritage and struggles for autonomy. But did you know that the flag we all know today, wasn't always the "official" flag for Puerto Rico?! 🤯🤔 Check out Pulso's favorite Puerto Rican historian, @Anthony Modesto Milian, as he breaks down the history of Puerto Rico's flag 👇👇👇👇

Pulso on Instagram: "You can spot the Puerto Rican flag as a sign of both pride and resistance across neighborhoods in the states and Island. But did you know there is more than one Puerto Rican flag? #Boricua #puertorico🇵🇷 #puertoriqueño #islabonita #history"
