For Sue Reynolds, her journey in affordable housing is one marked by unwavering dedication and a deep belief in the power of community. Since arriving in San Diego in 1989, Sue has been at the forefront of creating housing solutions that transform lives. But through every step of her path, she’s never walked alone, the San Diego Housing Federation (SDHF) has been with her all the way. From her early career in New York City working with neighborhood nonprofits and tenant unions, Sue recognized that housing was about more than shelter. It was about building opportunities and lifting people up. When she helped close one of the first nonprofit tax credit projects in New York, Sue knew she was just getting started. By the time she joined the San Diego Housing Federation’s founding team in the early 1990s, she had a clear vision: to bring that same sense of purpose and possibility to San Diego’s affordable housing sector. As we celebrate the work of the sector, Sue’s story reminds us that none of this progress happens in isolation. The San Diego Housing Federation is here – standing with our members, partners, and community every step of the way. Whether advocating for housing justice, fostering collaboration, or creating spaces where innovation flourishes, SDHF is committed to making sure no one has to face the housing challenge alone. Read Sue's full story here: https://lnkd.in/gcxArVZe The journey to create affordable, inclusive housing in San Diego isn’t over. Every day, we’re working to expand access to safe, stable housing for all, but we can’t do it without your support. Together, we can build a future where everyone has a place to call home. Please consider donating to the San Diego Housing Federation today. Your contribution helps ensure that SDHF can continue to stand by the people and organizations shaping the future of housing in San Diego—just as we have for leaders like Sue. With your help, we can keep advocating, connecting, and empowering the community. Make a donation: https://lnkd.in/gPZMJvNW

What a privilege it was to speak at Southern California Association of NonProfit Housing (SCANPH)'s Annual Conference yesterday with Celina P., Austyn Perry, and Izanie LoveNed! Our (all women of color!!) panel spoke on "Investing in the Next Generation of Housing Leaders: Innovative Ways to Attract, Train, and Empower BIPOC Housing Practitioners”. Was great to share the work San Diego Housing Federation is doing and learn more about the accomplishments of Merritt Community Capital Corporation, California Coalition for Rural Housing, and Non-Profit Housing Association of Northern California (NPH). Our presentations seemed to echo one another as we all strive towards a crucial goal: increasing equity and diversity in our housing workforce to better reflect the communities we serve. Can't wait to work with these powerhouse women again in the (hopefully near!) future.

SDHF's Senior Director of Programs and Community Engagement, Shelby Thomas, MSW, will be speaking on a panel at Southern California Association of NonProfit Housing (SCANPH)'s conference this Thursday, October 10th at 3 pm! The panel is entitled “Investing in the Next Generation of Housing Leaders: Innovative Ways to Attract, Train, and Empower BIPOC Housing Practitioners". Creating equitable solutions to the housing crisis entails investing in our industry's BIPOC practitioners. To do this, organizations must continually respond to the needs of the industry workforce, across varied career stages and industry roles. This session will reflect on the impact of longstanding career development programs including scholarships, internships, fellowships, and other trainings. It will also explore emerging programs that were created in response to other identified industry roles and career levels, such as property management trainings, mid-career training, and leadership development for BIPOC managers and executives. Overall, this panel will highlight how essential it is to continually assess how to better invest in the housing workforce, collaborate with the network of organizations doing the work, and facilitate necessary conversations to create an industry that reflects the communities it serves, where BIPOC practitioners can thrive.
