On September 25th, 2024, SELCO answered a Mutual Aid call via Northeast Public Power Association (NEPPA) consisting of 6 convoys and 29 utilities to assist in the aftermath of Hurricane Helene. Our dedicated Electric Linemen, Matt Ahlstrand and Matt Trotto, volunteered to join the NEPPA convoy heading south. They arrived in Fitzgerald, GA, just hours before the hurricane made landfall on 9/26. Despite the storm's devastation—broken poles, downed wires, and Georgia's flooding—Matt and Matt worked tirelessly, clocking 18-hour days to help restore power to the Fitzgerald area. They worked alongside neighboring Municipal Light Departments from Princeton, Littleton, Georgetown, and Groveland as part of a six-convoy effort spread across the South. Hurricane Helene left over 4.2 million people without power, with more than a million outages in Georgia alone. Thanks to the dedication of crews like ours, the lights are slowly coming back on. After a long journey, Matt and Matt returned home on 10/6, bringing valuable restoration and line skills to utilize here at SELCO. 💡👏 #mutualaid #hurricanehelene #CommunityPowered
