📣 Fire Response & Action | The Boyles Fire in Lake County has destroyed dozens of homes, leaving many older & uninsured residents without the resources to recover. This disaster will likely not reach the threshold for a state or federal disaster declaration, limiting the public resources that will flow into this community in the coming months & years. The newly launched Lake County Community Foundation is accepting donations for its Emergent Needs Fund. The League of California Community Foundations is providing resources and support as the Community Foundation responds to the first disaster in their service area since its formation. ➡️ Funders looking to #support the new Lake County Community Foundation directly can give to their vetted Emergent Needs fund here: https://lnkd.in/gANBDs6H ➡️ Funders wishing to support the League's work bolstering the #capacity of new and established community foundations can give to their vetted Relief, Recovery, and Resilience Fund here: https://lnkd.in/gVrrr3NJ ➡️ To view all Philanthropy CA #vetted active disaster response & recovery funds you can visit: https://lnkd.in/gYiW5mRQ Philanthropy California is an initiative of Northern California Grantmakers, Catalyst of San Diego & Imperial Counties, & SoCal Grantmakers

We are returning with another #ArtistHighlight this week! Each year, SCG's Knowledge & Communications team partners with illustrators to create art reflecting important themes in the philanthropic sector. This year, SCG has partnered with artists to create works reflecting Gender Justice, LGBTQ+ Rights, Health & Wellness, and Disability Justice. Today, we are excited to highlight an illustration from artist Jasmine Yee. An artist by day and a nurse by night, Jasmine Yee is a Chinese-American digital illustrator whose work focuses on human-centered design and collective healing. Jasmine hopes that her art can inspire others to see the beauty in diversity and spark dialogue in her community. Jasmine's featured artwork depicts four people embracing and smiling in front of a vibrant background with the sun, scattered clouds, and flowers. Alongside the art is the message "We Are All Interconnected," emphasizing that our lives are tied to the people around us, and taking care of one another is essential to create meaningful social impact. The systemic issues that affect our communities are all interconnected. In our quest for change, we must not only advocate for our own community, but also stand behind and support the diverse causes that matter to the people around us. By working together, we can build a better future for everyone. Learn more about Jasmine Yee and her work here: https://buff.ly/3TuDxNb #SCGArtistHighlight

We are less than two weeks away from SCG's 2024 Annual Conference, Better Together: Creating A Collective Legacy! Register and get your ticket today: https://buff.ly/3Yq12ue We are pleased to share the next breakout session, "Reimagining Public Safety: Human Trafficking and Large Global Events." Global events in Los Angeles, such as the World Cup and the Olympics, will have drastic regional impacts and will naturally raise the question of how best to protect and support vulnerable individuals. Issues that funders are working on every day, including homelessness and justice reform, intersect in unexpected and important ways with other issues, including human trafficking. Media portrayals of sex and labor trafficking often distort public understanding, perpetuate harmful stereotypes, and even lead to the criminalization of victims. Join us to dispel myths, understand the real impact of these events on vulnerable people, and consider your role as a funder in advancing systemic change on these interrelated issues. Speakers will include: ⭐ Susie Baldwin, Los Angeles County Department of Public HealthJenna Bruce, Coalition to Abolish Slavery & Trafficking (CAST)Kiran Gupta, Coalition to Abolish Slavery & Trafficking (CAST)Lyresh Magee, Coco Strandz ⭐ Abigail Marquez, City of Los Angeles, Community Investment for Families Department Learn more about our session topics and register today: https://buff.ly/3YJLelW #SCGBetterTogether

Philanthropy California Responds to the Line Fire, Bridge Fire, and Airport Fire Amidst the increasing wildfires in California, Governor Newsom declared a state of emergency and assigned personnel and resources to combat the fires and their impacts. The Line Fire alone has burned over 20,000 acres, forced thousands of evacuations, and caused significant environmental damage. Meanwhile, the Airport Fire and Bridge Fire continue to affect California. Apart from the Philanthropy California Disaster Response page, the Inland Empire Community Foundation has launched its Disaster Relief Fund for San Bernardino and Riverside Counties to support relief and recovery and to build lasting resilience.
