SFP is dedicated to delivering healthy marine & aquatic ecosystems through the creation of a responsible seafood economy
About us
Sustainable Fisheries Partnership's (SFP) mission is to maintain healthy ocean and aquatic ecosystems, enhance fishing and fish-farming livelihoods and secure food supplies. SFP is a young and dynamic, business-focused NGO that is reshaping the world of corporate responsibility through the creation of powerful information tools and a methodology that allows companies to directly engage with suppliers of natural resources. It does not campaign or provide eco-labels but works to reduce the barriers to action by industry in creating a more sustainable world. SFP operates through two main principles: information and improvement. www.bycatchsolutions.org - an industry-led hub to reduce bycatch in fisheries www.seafoodmetrics.com - sustainability intelligence for the seafood industry

The New York Times's interactive piece about the highly endangered North Atlantic Right Whale - Can 70 Moms Save a Species? - follows Squilla and her young calf over several years. This young calf eventually washed up on shore earlier this year, and NOAA Fisheries ruled her cause of death as entanglement. More than 85 percent of right whales have been entangled once in their lifetime. Squilla, still swimming strongly, has been seen with entanglement scars twice. To combat this issue and reduce the bycatch of other ocean wildlife, SFP works with fishers, government entities, and seafood companies to promote the adoption of ropeless or on-demand gear through our Protecting Ocean Wildlife program and Bycatch Solutions Hub. "Scientists and environmentalists see a lot of promise in a type of new equipment, known as ropeless or on-demand gear, that releases a line or flotation bag only when the fisher is on hand to check the trap, sharply reducing the danger to whales." Feed provisioning is a crucial component and embodies most of the cost and environmental impact of fed aquaculture production. The Sustainable Fisheries Partnership has officially launched the Aquaculture Feed Solutions Toolkit, a resource repository focusing on the sourcing and selection of feed and its ingredients. This tool enables the industry to reduce risks and negative impacts on the environment and livelihoods. Our CEO, Anton Immink, and Sustainable Supply Chain Lead, Wesley Malcorps, PhD, provided feedback and suggestions which contributed to the Toolkit’s development. It is great to see such initiatives supporting the social and environmental performance of the aquaculture industry. Exciting news! SFP has officially launched the #aquaculture Feed Solutions Toolkit, a one-stop resource for companies to tackle the climate change, #habitat, and #biodiversity risks associated with aquaculture feed 📣 The toolkit combines over 80 tools, standards, initiatives, and platforms from multiple organizations, along with guidance and case studies on practical steps to improve feed sustainability. ☑️ Why is this important for seafood companies? 👉Aquaculture feed remains a significant climate change and environmental hotspot, with risks such as land conversion, pollution, and bycatch from the production or capture of feed ingredients. 👉The Toolkit will increase transparency for feed ingredients, a critical step for the seafood industry to improve feed sustainability and meet growing global demand for seafood while offering a low-carbon alternative to other animal products. 👉The Feed Solutions Toolkit is the first time these resources have been curated in one place. Check out the Feed Solutions Toolkit of the SFP website! 👇 https://lnkd.in/dv7UWmuh #sustainableseafood #feed #aquaculturefeed #climatechange
