Last week, U.S. Special Operations Command (USSOCOM) hosted the Western Hemisphere Institute for Security Cooperation (WHINSEC) during a visit to Joint Special Operations University (JSOU). Sixty-eight (68) WHINSEC students comprised of Majors and Colonels from the U.S., Colombia, Costa Rica, Dominican Republic, Ecuador, Guatemala, Honduras, Mexico, Paraguay, Peru, Panama, and Uruguay were in attendance. During the USSOCOM and JSOU hosted portion of the visit, attendees were briefed by former Commander of Special Operations Command South, Brig. Gen. (Retired) Hector Pagan, USSOCOM J37/J3-I Directorates, and JSOU subject matter experts.

U.S. Special Operations Command South personnel joined Peru's Army War College – Postgraduate School and Joint Special Operations University in #StrengtheningPartnerships at the Irregular Warfare international seminar held in Lima, Peru with 90 participants from eight #partner nations, Sept. 10-12. The event with United States Southern Command aimed to advance understanding of IW concepts and build partnerships with regional #SOF leaders. With JSOU partnering with Escuela Superior de Guerra del Ejército for presentations, 90 participants from Brazil, Colombia, Ecuador, Guatemala, Honduras, Paraguay, the U.S., and Peru attended the event. Peru’s Chief of Defense, Gen David Ojeda Parra, gave the opening remarks, followed by a detailed brief of operations in the Valley of the Apurimac, Ene and Mantaro Rivers from VRAEM Joint Force Commander Gen Hugo Molina Carazas. Commander of the Joint Intelligence and Special Operations Command Gen. Julio Castaneda Zegarra also gave a brief on Peruvian SOF, intel fusion, and how they conduct operations in the VRAEM. Last month, Staff Sgt. Rosmelynn Angelakopoulos was promoted to Sgt. 1st Class at a ceremony held at Joint Special Operations University. Sgt. 1st Class Angelakopoulos is the Senior Administration Non-Commissioned Officer for the Reserve Team at Joint Special Operations University taking care of over 25 Soldiers as the Non-Commissioned Officer in charge for the reserve team.
