Arthur O'Leary, a local Physics teacher at Leominster High School who is battling stage IV Breast Cancer and receiving treatments at UMass Memorial HealthAlliance-Clinton Hospital is spreading awareness for Breast Cancer in men by urging all men to schedule a physical every year. “You have to get a physical every year, but the average guy hates going to the doctor, but you’ve got to do it every year. Get it checked, if there’s any suspicion, I’d say get it checked because it’s a possibility.” he told Spectrum News in Worcester. Call 855-UMASS-MD to get your annual screening scheduled.

Meet Katie Gendron, LPN, Clinical Liaison at UMass Memorial HealthAlliance-Clinton Hospital HealthAlliance Home Health & Hospice. "My first thought of working in healthcare was when I gave birth to my son. The nurses were fantastic, and they gave me the idea to make that change. Their generosity and commitment to helping others inspired me, and it made me realize that I wanted to use my career in healthcare to improve people's lives. Their professionalism and care left a lasting impact on me, motivating me to pursue a career in the field. I was originally doing marketing and quit my job and went to nursing school; the rest is history. The decision to switch careers was a challenging one, but ultimately, I knew that making a difference in people's lives through healthcare was my true calling. I am grateful for the nurses at Leominster Hospital who sparked this passion within me and set me on this fulfilling path. My favorite part of my job is being able to directly impact and improve the well-being of others. Whether it's providing comfort to patients, educating them on their health, or simply being a supportive presence, I find great fulfillment in knowing that I am making a positive difference in someone's life. My favorite part of the job is the people. I love to see people getting help. The people I work with are one of my favorite parts. It’s like a second family. The camaraderie and support from my colleagues make the work environment enjoyable and collaborative. Additionally, witnessing the progress and growth of patients under our care is incredibly rewarding. My most memorable moment so far in nursing was when I actually saved a life. Patient was bleeding out, and we got him to live. As far as UMass Memorial Health there’s too many to count, but I enjoy the flexibility of my job and going to meet new people. Additionally, being able to make a positive impact on someone's life during their most vulnerable moments is truly fulfilling. The constant learning and growth opportunities in the field of nursing also contribute to my overall job satisfaction. I love working at UMass Memorial because I feel like there’s endless opportunities. The supportive team environment and the diverse patient population constantly inspire and challenge me. Additionally, the resources and support provided by UMass Memorial allow me to continuously improve my skills and knowledge as a nurse. Not just from a job aspect, but idea boards, committees, and learning opportunities are always there. When I'm not working, I can often be seen reading, going to concerts, or shopping." We are inspired by you, Katie! Thank you for your hard work and dedication to being a caregiver. #MyUMassMemorialMark
