Despite negligible global carbon emissions, Pacific Islands like Samoa face significant challenges due to the impacts of climate change, caused by big polluting nations. Yet they are taking proactive steps toward decarbonization. With support from the Japan - The Government of Japan and UNDP in Asia and the Pacific, it has deployed 76 electric vehicles in the country, one step on the path to advancing the use of renewable energy. This initiative promotes environmental sustainability and offers economic opportunities for local communities. #WhatAreYouDoing #PacificGreenTranformation UNDP Samoa

About us
Development challenges in Asia and the Pacific are as diverse and complex as the region itself. It has some of the youngest democracies and some of the world’s most dynamic economies, but it is also home to more than half the world’s poor. It is the most disaster-prone region in the world, with small island developing states in the Pacific bearing the brunt of climate change. Meanwhile, concerns about environmental degradation are increasingly relevant for some of the fastest growing economies in the region. To respond to these challenges, UNDP concentrates its efforts on building the region’s capacity to promote inclusive, pro-poor growth, effective governance, and sustainable and resilient development. We help our partners in identifying relevant solutions to today’s complex, trans-boundary development challenges. We support them to design and implement large scale development initiatives that deliver lasting social, economic and environmental improvements in countries across the region. UNDP provides support to governments to integrate the Sustainable Development Goals into their national development plans and policies. This work is already underway, as we support many countries in accelerating progress already achieved under the Millennium Development Goals.

4 days to go! We must make #PeaceWithNature. As we approach critical moments for global decision-making, including #COP16Colombia, world leaders must heed this warning and take urgent action to transform our collective future. It is all connected. Climate instability, biodiversity loss, and land degradation are interconnected crises, and so are the solutions. There will be no stable climate without a stable natural environment, nor a sustainable future without healthy land. A new report on promoting inclusive youth entrepreneurship in Asia-Pacific was launched to address the unique challenges faced by young entrepreneurs from underserved communities and provide actionable recommendations for fostering an inclusive entrepreneurship ecosystem, called "From Margins to Mainstream: Inclusive Youth Entrepreneurship in the Asia-Pacific Region," was launched by Youth Co:Lab, co-led by UNDP and Citi Foundation today. The report was produced in collaboration with the World Bank and UN Volunteers (UNV). “Speaking at the event Christophe Bahuet, Deputy Regional Director for Asia and the Pacific and Director, UNDP Bangkok Regional Hub said “The UNDP-Citi Foundation partnership helps young entrepreneurs in the Asia Pacific region make a lasting economic and social impact. We are very encouraged to see how their determination and innovation transform communities, create jobs, and boost economic growth.” The findings of the study reveal systemic barriers such as limited access to finance, training, and mentorship for marginalized groups, opportunities for young entrepreneurs to drive social change and economic development in the Asia-Pacific region, and a call to action for governments, private sectors, and civil society to strengthen partnerships and create an enabling environment for inclusive entrepreneurship.
