“This meeting provided insight that countries, despite their differences, face similar challenges in establishing government-led contracting. It is a great opportunity to learn from one another.” That was the message from one of the participants at the Collaborative on Contracting Organizations for Health-Related Services, an in-person gathering of health sector leaders from 10 countries in Delhi, India, over September 30 to October 2. The year-long collaborative focuses on government-led contracting with NGOs and the for-profit private sector for select health services, using a country’s own procurement system and domestic funds, to leverage non-public sector efficiencies in their health system. It is led by HS4TB in partnership with the Joint Learning Network for Universal Health Coverage. By HS4TB’s William Wells, Saba Waseem, and Sarah Scheening, the article examines the intersection between the needs of TB programs and the broader health financing landscape. Up to 80% of people infected with TB in India first contact the health system through the private sector, making private provider engagement critical for TB control and elimination. #India has made considerable progress in engaging private providers to provide quality TB care. In 2023-24, USAID Health Systems for TB (HS4TB) Project supported #Kenya's National Tuberculosis, Leprosy and Lung Disease Program (NTLD-P) to lay the foundations for an efficiently and adequately financed national TB response. Kenya has made great strides in reducing the burden of #tuberculosis. TB incidence dropped by 44% and mortality by 60% between 2000 and 2021. To continue this progress, HS4TB worked with #Kenya's National Tuberculosis, Leprosy and Lung Disease Program to develop a County-level TB Planning & Budgeting Capacity Building Plan which will increase skills among local TB coordinators to effectively tackle TB. #YesWeCanEndTB #EndTB. https://lnkd.in/em5AyrwS

HS4TB took part in the World Health Organization's global meeting of the Public-Private Mix Working Group for TB Prevention and Care from June 25-28, 2024, in #Bangladesh. HS4TB facilitated a session on “Improved contract management practices in #India” showcasing the project’s work to support the National TB Elimination Program in five states. #EndTB.
