15-year-old Grace is UVA Health's 2025 Children's Miracle Network Hospitals Local Champion! 🎉 UVA Health Children's NICU was Grace's first home after she was born weighing a little more than 2lbs and had to overcome a brain-bleed and a non-functional kidney. Thanks to donations, in part through Children's Miracle Network Hospitals, UVA Health Children's provides Child Life support through its Patient and Family Centered Care Program; this helped Grace, and her siblings navigate their medical journeys! Today, Grace regularly volunteers at UVA Health Children's and enjoys participating in her favorite sport: horseback barrel racing! Menopause is having a cultural moment. Increased media coverage, advocacy, and recent medical advances are generating tremendous interest in what happens to women’s health during midlife. Before all this, there were few providers like JoAnn Pinkerton, MD, who is 30-plus years into her work in midlife health patient care, research, advocacy, and community engagement. Grateful patients and colleagues joined forces to honor her legacy by funding a new Women’s Midlife Health Endowed Professorship at the University of Virginia School of Medicine. 🏫 Learn more about Dr. Pinkerton at https://bit.ly/4c5k1Pt

For years, colorectal surgeon Charles Friel, MD, has been a vocal advocate for colon cancer screening, even when it meant going on local TV dressed in a polyp costume.
