Working with the world’s most influential businesses to take action on climate change and call for ambitious policy.

About us

We Mean Business is a global nonprofit coalition working with the world’s most influential businesses to take action on climate change. #FossilToClean Together we catalyze business leadership to drive policy ambition and accelerate the transition to a low-carbon economy. All countries and all businesses can seize the opportunity and go all in to halve emissions by 2030. Together we can create an inclusive net zero economy, build resilient communities and limit global heating to 1.5°C. The low-carbon transition is underway and forward-looking businesses are harnessing climate action as a driver of innovation, competitiveness, risk management and growth. We are mobilizing businesses to set ambitious targets and equipping them to seize the opportunities of the low-carbon transition. Hundreds of businesses have helped kick-start this transition by setting science-based emissions reduction targets and taking action to deliver against those targets by committing to transition to 100% renewable power. But it is not happening fast enough. The necessary speed and scale of the transition requires all companies and sectors to engage proactively to reduce emissions at the rate required to avoid dangerous climate change. Which is why our coalition is working together to catalyze further, faster corporate climate action. The coalition brings together seven international nonprofit organizations: BSR, CDP, Ceres, The B Team, The Climate Group, The Prince of Wales's Corporate Leaders Group, WBCSD.

• 📢 Our March edition of Signals of Change is now live. This month we're bringing you the latest news from the energy transition, EU policy, corporate progress on nature and insights on financial reporting worldwide. With #COP30 set to take place in Belém, Brazil, a city located at the gateway to the Amazon rainforest , Luke Pritchard, Director of the Beyond Alliance, writes this month's deep dive analysis. The piece covers recent progress on reducing deforestation and scaling reforestation initiatives in the state of Brazilian state of Pará– including a new role for business. 📖 Read our deep dive and more positive stories of change below:

  • Businesses in Europe face increasing challenges in navigating the evolving regulatory landscape.
A renewed push to boost the bloc’s competitiveness through the recent EU Omnibus has resulted in greater complexity for companies.
"The Commission is, of course, right to want to improve European companies’ competitiveness, but causing confusion in this way is not helpful—least of all for those companies that have spent money and time getting their house in order as requested," writes our CEO María Mendiluce in Forbes.    The changes to the #CSRD are particularly concerning for businesses that fall under the original legislation. Until a new law is enacted, companies are still required to comply, yet a final deal from EU institutions could be months away.

  •  🇧🇷 In partnership with Conselho Empresarial Brasileiro para o Desenvolvimento Sustentável (Cebds) (the Brazilian Business Council for Sustainable Development), we have launched a new report, outlining how #Brazil’s national climate plan (NDC) can drive private sector investment in climate action. To protect our communities, economies, and future, the nationally-determined contributions (NDCs) for 2035 being developed by governments now must tackle the root causes of climate change—burning fossil fuels and degrading nature. By working together, business and government can be a powerful catalyst for change. That’s why companies are calling for ambitious #NDCs that unlock fast-moving investment and accelerate the clean-energy transition. As #COP30 host and an early mover in submitting its 2035 NDC, Brazil is pushing the global climate agenda forward and establishing itself as a leader. Its new target—a 59–67% emissions reduction by 2035 (from 2005 levels)—is a major step forward from its existing target for 2030. Now, the focus shifts to implementation. With Brazil’s Climate Plan (Plano Clima) in development, ensuring strong private sector engagement is crucial.  📥 Download the full report:  🔗English:  https://lnkd.in/eT-r2bsP   🔗Português: https://lnkd.in/ejaVYZKZ #BrazilNDC #ClimateAction #EnergyTransition #COP30 #FossilToClean

In turbulent times, those of us working on #climate and sustainability need networks that can support and energise us. Yesterday, we brought together the Women Leading on Climate network I co-lead with Catherine McKenna to build solidarity and to strategize on how we can work together to overcome our collective challenges. It was also a space to remind ourselves of the progress that is being made - despite the noise. We talked about the unstoppable growth and falling cost of #CleanEnergy, the transformative impact the #ParisAgreement has had in raising ambition, and the companies, investors and subnational governments that are continuing to go all in on the clean energy transition because it makes business and economic sense. Ahead of #IWD2025 we want to recognise all the women in this network and beyond – and the men who work with them - who are driving action for climate and nature forwards in business, policy, science and government at all levels. We can do this! 💪 🔗 https://lnkd.in/gXQ3V83F #InternationalWomensday #WomenLeadingOnClimate

  • 👏 The Beyond Alliance launched the Common App today, an initiative designed to streamline and harmonize information collection for corporate buyers of Afforestation, Reforestation, and Revegetation (ARR) credit projects. In collaboration with Beyond members, the Common App establishes a streamlined information-request template for carbon credit project developers to signal expectations around project integrity and quality. The tool is available for download by any company looking to enhance their procurement process and align with leading corporate buyers across voluntary carbon market projects.  Luke Pritchard, Director of the Beyond Alliance: “The launch of the Common App advances Beyond’s goal of better connecting buyers with high-integrity and high-impact projects, helping maximize the climate and social impact of limited voluntary corporate climate finance.” 🔗  https://lnkd.in/er_D7wHB
