Job Summary

The Career Services Advisor provides comprehensive career services to Northeastern learners, including counseling and advising for undergraduates, graduate students and alumni across the global Northeastern network in the areas of career development, selection of major and/or career, and job acquisition. The successful candidate will create and deliver seminars, networking events, and programs to meet evolving needs of learners regarding career development topics with a potential focus on graduate school and law school coaching, and will serve as a liaison to one of the colleges meeting with co-op and academic advising teams to collaborate on programs and services.

This is a hybrid role with 3 days in the office. There may also be occasional evening and weekend work.

Minimum Qualifications

  • One-three years of career advising experience.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of current labor trends and local, regional and national job searching strategies.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and demonstrated skill in presenting / teaching.
  • Experience working with and affirming diverse cultures and backgrounds.
  • Excellent organizational, event and program management skills, including detail-oriented capacity for building efficient systems and operations.
  • Strong technology skills including webinar delivery.


Responsibilities Include

  • Demonstrates and integrates into career advising and instruction a lifelong learning mindset in career design
  • Advises undergraduate and graduate students, alumni, and staff on law school and graduate school application process and provide resources including PlusJD and FlexJD programs
  • Coaches learners including undergraduate, graduate and PhDs as well as alumni individually and in groups to design their career goals including identifying career interests, skills, personality and values, choosing a major, researching career paths and searching for job and internship opportunities
  • Facilitate learners’ assessments to aid decision-making such as choosing a major and finding career paths including StrengthsFinder, Strengths Profile, SkillScan, Strong, among other assessment tools differentiating approaches to meet diverse students’ needs including those with unique abilities and international, non-traditional, first generation, and LGBQT+ communities.
  • Develop and deliver workshops and events including panels and speakers relating to careers in opportunities for those with graduate degrees and law school and graduate school admissions.
  • Build relationships with law school and graduate school admissions representatives, other institutions’ Pre-Law Advisors and the Law School Admissions Council and other institutions’ advisors to keep current on admissions decision making process.
  • Provide support and coordination for programs, resources, and services in the Northeastern University ecosystem that address the intersection of career and identity to support the professional development and career trajectory of marginalized learner populations (including students of color, first generation and low income, LGBTQA+, International, students with disabilities and other underrepresented intersections of identity) across all Northeastern campuses.
  • Assists with department-wide activities and events: Career Fairs, Career Studio, coaching labs, networking programs, orientations, etc.
  • Participates in professional development and training activities including client issues round tables, employer and employment updates and technology training.
