Some very difficult issues for this strategy to grapple with - balancing the desire to quite rightly enhance and make the most of this iconic whilst not stifling the major developments and investments that the city needs (and which continues to be a viability challenge)
#News: A team of international placemaking experts has been appointed to help set out the future vision for developing #Liverpool’s iconic waterfront. West 8 & BDP (Building Design Partnership Ltd), who have led on major schemes in New York, Toronto, Shanghai, Melbourne, Rotterdam and Hamburg, have been chosen by the City Council to work on creating an ambitious and visionary plan for Liverpool’s iconic waterfront over the next 25 years. Their teams of landscape architects and urban designers will be supported by consultants at WSP (connectivity and movement) and ekosgen (social impact), to look at a 5 mile strip of the waterfront from the Festival Gardens site in the south to Bramley Moore Dock in the north. The Council intends that this plan will form part of an approach to ensure developments coming forward are more inclusive, and the strategy will identify key challenges and opportunities for change to maximise benefit for communities along and adjacent the waterfront. In addition, there are key challenges and opportunities around maximising investment opportunities and economic activity in the docks, connectivity and linkages – north/ south and west/east, public realm and quality of place, conservation and enhancement of the natural and historic environment, as well as climate change and the city’s ambition to deliver net zero by 2030. Liverpool’s draft waterfront plan will have seven defining aims: 1. Maximise the waterfront’s contribution to the city and city region’s economy. 2. Maximise the benefits of investment along the waterfront and ensure any revitalisation will benefit hinterland communities. 3. Enhance connectivity along the waterfront and in-land, promoting active travel. 4. Ensure the conservation and enhancement of the significance of the City’s heritage assets and support the interpretation of Liverpool’s distinct historic maritime environment. 5. Inspire excellence in quality of place and urban design, reconnect people with the water and reinforce the waterfront as a great location for business, homes, play, culture and tourism. 6. Identify key infrastructure needed to support the regeneration of the waterfront. 7. Consider environmental improvements and green infrastructure to improve the public realm and deliver sustainable, creative and innovative solutions to address the impact of climate change. It is intended that the final waterfront plan will be taken forward for adoption as a Supplementary Planning Document (SPD). In Aldea Zamá neighborhood of Riviera Maya, located within the city of Tulum, Quintana Roo state, Yucatán Peninsula, Mexico, Sordo Madaleno designed 38 apartments that aspire to blend naturally within their environment. With the natural environment at the forefront of their plans, the developers raised the structures off the ground to reduce the impact on the site. Raising the structure also allows for the passage of water underneath the structures if needed during large storms. The designers used locally sourced materials for the finishes, reducing the buildings carbon footprint and construction waste at the same time. Strategic placement of the units and their windows and doors, allowed the designers to emphasize natural sunlight throughout the interior spaces and also direct air flow throughout the site, which helps regulate temperatures. The designers also worked to help regulate temperatures by creating screens of natural material across the rooftops of the buildings, this provides shade to reduce solar gain on the residences. A combination of gardens, terraces, courtyards and patios are scattered throughout the site, offering residents a stronger connection to the natural environment, while also further regulating temperatures. Communal public spaces allow for residents to build a stronger sense of community and belonging, which is important for multi-family developments in the short and long term. With multi-family housing becoming a such a lucrative choice for developers, it’s important that we are cognizant of the strain that these larger projects can have on our natural environment. By designing projects that blend within our natural environment, using locally sourced and natural materials, and have minimal impact on sensitive sites, we can build a more sustainable world. We’re all in this together #multifamilyhousing #multifamily #design #architecture #architecturaldesign #urbandesign #urbanplanning #design #sustainable #sustainability #sustainabledesign #renewable #recycledmaterials #locallysourced #designbuild

Proud to be involved!!!!! Riviera Tower, 50 floors luxury residential tower, The Ellinikon, Athens, Greece The tallest green beachfront building in the whole Mediterranean Riviera Tower, designed by architects Foster+Partners, will be the first landmark to take shape at The Ellinikon urban development project, an ambitious regeneration scheme for the Greek capital’s former airport site. The €8bn master plan includes the creation of a world-class Metropolitan Park covering an area of 2 million m², as well as extensive enhancement of the coastal front. This emphasis on green regeneration will be showcased in the Riviera Tower, which features distinctive ‘hanging gardens’, with dominant green spaces and water features, natural light and unobstructed sea views. Buro Happold is working alongside Foster+Partners on the project, across a broad range of engineering disciplines, ensuring the building’s green design approach translates into its credentials as a landmark building for sustainability-focused living. The planning laws of Athens dictate that nothing can be allowed to over-shadow the city’s historic Acropolis. As 200 meters is the maximum height permissible, Riviera Tower will never be superseded as the capital’s tallest building, while, at this height, it is the tallest, green beachfront tower in the whole of the Mediterranean. The tower will house 180 apartments on 50 floors. In a complex piece of engineering, the design connects what is effectively two towers with a spine composed of high-rise gardens and infinity swimming pools alternating on each of the floors. Riviera Tower is a next-generation example of biophilic design — an approach that brings the built environment and the natural landscape into greater harmony. A holistic approach to sustainable resources, low-embodied and operational energy and symbiosis with the unique ecology of the Mediterranean landscape. The result will set a new global standard for luxury residential design, with the highest environmental credentials — an important fact, these days, for any significant long-term and future-proof investment. ALUMIL Systems selected for the project include top of the range solutions: ✔ Special slim sliding doors based on ALUMIL Supreme Sliding Solutions with ALUMIL S650 Phos (means light in Greek), including special corner typologies. ✔Special slim curtainwall with ALUMIL M35 system, maximizing vision areas in high performance ✔Custom designed curtainwall system based on ALUMIL M60, maximizing energy efficiency, security levels and structural rigidity ✔Custom designed railing system based on ALUMIL M8200 for robust glass railings of highest aesthetics Big THANK YOU to all project stakeholders!!!!!! #AlumilMiddleEast #ALUMIL #BuildingExcellenceEveryDay #ProudToBeInvolved #AluminiumSystem #Performance #Innovation #Sustainability #RnD #AestheticDesign #SUPREME #Phos #RIVIERA #BiophilicDesign
