Overland Park is home to 35 hotels and over 4,700 hotel rooms and one of the best small convention centers in the United States. A recent report published by Oxford Economics indicates that global business events are bouncing back to pre-Covid levels of 2019. There is progress in several key areas for global events, including an uptick in request for proposal (RFP) activity to 91% of 2019 levels of RFPs, and hotel group rooms rising to 98% of the equivalent quarter in 2019. Additionally, RFPs submitted for large and medium-size events during the second quarter surpassed levels seen in 2019 at 103%. However, RFP activity for small events only hit 88% of 2019 levels. RFPs for events more than 12 months away are up to 98%, while those that are less than 12 months away are only up to 91% of 2019 levels. This suggests that the shorter lead times may be easing. Events & Hospitality As we are approaching first apex (stay tuned f0r m0re) of our occupancy in Losinj Hotels & Villas, with Loop MICE, Loop Leisure and Loop CEE making it also absolute marketing apex of the decade on our island, my thoughts led me to think what do all these events mean for our industry, why do we spend so much time in creating events, making us stand out from the crowd on events, doing numerous lectures, panel discussion, destroy our livers with premier cru wines, fly long distances and drive our designers crazy with all tiny details of our movies and presentations ? And couple of my thought process conclusions: - Events are plexus and milestones of hospitality industry. These are imaginable and real places where we convene, and where hospitality lives & breaths, they present Real rooms, Real applications, and Incarnated ideas, something that we hold on our outlook or wall calendars... - Events are accelerators, they are microwaved electrons that speed up our KPI-s, they give us bulk of volume, boost of revenues, and of course prop our ADR-s. - Events are exchange of knowledge, learning opportunity, by default privilege of expanding one's mental universe. - They are opportunity for improvement, as through the whole cycle our weaknesses and our strengths are and exposed and can be polished enabling growth of our teams. - And at the end, they are pure essence of hospitality, occasion to make new friends, have great fun, get connected, and the best coaching and team building opportunity that costs nothing... So much from me in this Easter morning...
