Greenfleet acknowledges the Traditional Custodians of the land, seas and skies throughout Australia and pays respect to their Elders, past and present. In particular, we recognise their deep connection to Country and honour their knowledge and wisdom in caring for it. The 2024 National Reconciliation Week theme is Now More Than Ever. Recognising the importance of advancing Reconciliation, despite the setbacks of 2023. As we work to align climate action with reconciliation action, we will continue to listen to First Nations voices. It's a wrap of the first week of the Nairobi Summer School on Climate Justice and I can say a few things on Climate Justice through the African lenses. 1. Climate action Must be fair, equitable, ecologically Just and responsive to needs of Most Vulnerable in Society 2. Climate Justice means that those who are primarily responsible for Climate change own their Mistakes and actually do something about it. 3. Climate Justice means those who have caused climate change should own upto their debt accrued from the victims of their actions and compensate them. 4. Climate Justice means those at the front line of climate justice should be proactively engaged in such processes as UNFCCC UN , Regional Climate processes as well as national and subnational conversations geared towards framing policies and other interventions to address climate change. To make #climatefinance effective for the people who need it most, we need a conflict-sensitive approach.    More than 90 states have signed the #COP28 Declaration on Climate, Relief, Recovery and Peace, stressing the importance of integrated climate and peace strategies. International Court of Justice (ICJ) Advisory Opinion on #climatechange. Exciting news on #climatelitigation, in a historic development, climate change litigation finally reached the highest court of the United Nations: the International Court of Justice (ICJ) of Justice (ICJ). The ICJ is being called to prepare an advisory opinion on the obligations of #States with respect to climate change. This would favor greater accountability by ensuring that major #greenhouse gas emitters compensate vulnerable countries for the #Loss and Damage caused by climate change while safeguarding fundamental #humanrights. Brief on NGYouthSDGs Capacity Building Sessions The NGYouthSDGs capacity-building program is designed to empower Nigerian youth with the knowledge and skills needed to engage meaningfully in climate policy implementation and advocacy. Module 1-4 outlines the key themes covered in the sessions: Module 1: Overview of Nigeria's National Climate Policies This module provides an introduction to the key national policies addressing climate change in Nigeria. Participants are guided through the country’s climate action framework, including Nigeria's Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs), climate mitigation and adaptation strategies, and the roles of governmental agencies such as the Federal Ministry of Environment and the Department of Climate Change. This session helps youth understand Nigeria’s commitments under the Paris Agreement and the various policy instruments that guide climate action.

Exciting developments in the UK's climate action plan! The UK government has announced the introduction of its Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM), set to launch in January 2027. This repory reveals that decisive actions must be taken in the European Union (EU) to avoid irreversible environmental and dangerous social tipping points as well as maintain the promise of achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the objectives of the Paris Climate Agreement. At the current rate, a third of SDG targets will not be achieved by the EU by 2030, with significant difference!
