Spending time learning with Danielle and Volcani International Partnerships the past couple of months has been so amazing. The opportunity to work together to move agriculture forward across the globe is incredible. As an American and advocate for agriculture in America, I find it so important to discuss the relationship with Israel and the USA. What can we do to close the gap between the innovation and the boots on the ground? How do farmers and ranchers want to see innovation playing a role on their farms and ranches? How does policy play into it?

I HAVE A SIMrrPLE QUESTION #HowManyMorePalestinianChildrenToBe #MurderedBeforeCeasefire It is our collective responsibility as the international community to hold Israel, as the occupying power, accountable for its violations of the Geneva Conventions and international humanitarian law. Article 14 of the conventions categorically states: “Starvation of civilians as a method of combat is prohibited. It is therefore prohibited to attack, destroy, remove or render useless for that purpose objects indispensable to the survival of the civilian population such as foodstuffs, agricultural areas for the production of foodstuffs, crops, livestock, drinking water installations and supplies and irrigation works.” According to the Fourth Geneva Convention, “Civilians in areas of armed conflict and occupied territories are protected by the 159 articles of the Fourth Geneva Convention. Civilians are to be protected from murder, torture, or brutality, and from discrimination on the basis of race, nationality, religion or political opinion.” The only way forward for a sustainable solution to the cycle of violence in the Middle East is to #Endthe #OccupationOfPalestinianland and to negotiate the establishment of a viable Palestinian state. Until such a state is realised, it will be difficult, if not impossible, to have sustainable peace and security for Israel, or for the wider region. 🇺🇸 USAID Economic Resilience Activity (ERA) work under AGRI-Ukraine The Agriculture Resilience Initiative – Ukraine (AGRI-Ukraine) is a $350 million USAID initiative that was established in 2022 to bolster Ukrainian agriculture exports and help alleviate the global food security crisis exacerbated by Putin’s brutal war on Ukraine. AGRI-Ukraine is strengthening Ukraine’s immediate agricultural export resilience, to support Ukrainian farmers and reduce global food insecurity. USAID ERA is one of the implementing partners under AGRI-Ukraine, with an approximately $30 million mandate to enhance Ukrainian infrastructure capacity to efficiently export agricultural goods. ERA is supporting market system resilience through alternatives to the traditional Black Sea ports that are threatened by Russia’s blockades. Such measures include overland rail export via the EU and use of the Danube River to export from Romanian Black Sea ports. Today is World Soil Day! The health of soil and the quality and availability of water are interconnected, and soil and water provide the foundation for food production and habitable ecosystems. Tackling challenges around soil requires integrated and often cross-sectoral approaches. The Lake Hawassa ecosystem in the Ethiopian Rift Valley is threatened by large-scale soil erosion. This is how we contribute to food security and sustainable economic development in Ukraine. Before the war, Ukraine was the third-largest potato producer globally. However, the conflict has severely impacted the potato market in Ukraine, leading to increased production costs, unavailability of seed potatoes, decreased output, declining market demand, lower sales prices, and additional pressure from climate change.   Our project "Rebuilding Potato Ukraine" is funded by the Ukraine Partnership Facility (UPF), a program from the Netherlands Enterprise Agency commissioned by the Netherlands’ Ministry of Foreign Affairs. UPF supports damage repair and reconstruction projects for the public and private sectors.
