Today, 19 June 2024, marks World Sickle Cell Disease Day! World Sickle Cell Day was established by the United Nations General Assembly in 2008 to increase public knowledge and understanding of Sickle Cell Disease (SCD). Sickle Cell Disease (SCD) it is characterized by the presence of abnormal hemoglobin, called hemoglobin S. This abnormal hemoglobin causes red blood cells to become rigid, sticky, and shaped like crescents or sickles. These irregularly shaped cells can block blood flow, leading to pain, infections, and potential complications such as organ damage, strokes and it impacts millions globally! Individuals with SCD experience significant unmet needs, driving the call for a better future. Together, let's work towards a world where LIVING UNLIMITED with SCD is a REALITY #worldsicklecellday #sicklecellawareness #supportSCD #healthcare #liveunlimited #betterfuture #novonordisk Novo Nordisk
