What is humility? With just eight days until Christmas, it’s easy to get swept up in battling for the best parking spots. But what if we paused to refocus? Instead of getting caught in the “trappings” of the season, we could embrace its deeper truths of humility, patience, and putting others first. These qualities don’t just transform how we experience the holidays and the shape of how we impact those around us. In the picture is the Christmas tree at Asurion headquarters in the Gulch at Nashville. At my work we’re encouraged to approach our work with humility and a low ego. The most important person in the room isn’t always the leader; it’s often the one whose ideas spark solutions or guide the team forward. True collaboration comes from embracing diverse perspectives and working together with respect. Humility reminds us the season isn’t about us. Imagine walking into each interaction, not with “Here I am,” but with “How can I help?” Patience allows us to extend grace whether it’s during long lines or rush-hour traffic. And focusing on others, even through small acts like offering a smile or letting someone take the better parking spot, spreads joy in meaningful ways. This year, let’s redefine how we celebrate. 🎉 Work Hard, Play Harder 🩷 Last week, our team embodied the perfect mix of strategy and spontaneity. After our (fashionably late) holiday party Thursday night, we kicked off Friday with a full planning day. But this wasn’t your typical "sit around a table and brainstorm" kind of day. Enter: Pajamas + Bloody Marys. That’s right—our team showed up in their Christmas PJs, armed with big ideas and even bigger energy. And when we hit a creative roadblock? Naturally, we turned up the music and broke into a dance party! 💃🕺 Why do we do this? Because we believe that creativity thrives when people feel comfortable, connected, and inspired. Our culture isn’t about "fun for fun’s sake." It’s about building a team that genuinely loves what they do and who they do it with. The result? Bigger ideas. Better collaboration. 🎄🏖️ Holiday vibes, sweet connections, and a sprinkle of creativity! 🎄🏖️ One of my favorite things about working at Comcast is how much we value connection—not just professionally but personally, too. Today, our Talent Acquisition team got into the holiday spirit with some seriously sweet activities! First, we dove into holiday movie trivia with a twist—each clue was a holiday-themed image that made us flex our guessing skills. (Turns out, deciphering movie titles from candy canes and snowmen is harder than it looks! 😂) Then it was time to get creative with gingerbread houses. Naturally, as a Floridian, I fully embraced a plot twist. Behold: my sugar cookie beach house, complete with gingerbread sand and plenty of sprinkles! 🏖️✨ Thank you Kimberly Starkey! 🔥𝑰𝒕’𝒔 𝒕𝒊𝒎𝒆 𝒕𝒐 𝒅𝒊𝒔𝒄𝒐𝒏𝒏𝒆𝒄𝒕, 𝒅𝒂𝒎𝒎𝒊𝒕!  🧑🧑🧒🧒𝐬𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐨𝐮𝐬 𝐟𝐚𝐦𝐢𝐥𝐲 𝐭𝐢𝐦𝐞. 📵Okay, not 100%, but we’re finally well-positioned to turn off the devices and enjoy some serious family time. Today starts our first vacation in over 2 years. Little did we know back then that we’d be welcoming 2 new 𝐠𝐫𝐚𝐧𝐝𝐛𝐚𝐛𝐢𝐞𝐬 (𝒚𝒂𝒚!) or that we’d be 𝒏𝒆𝒄𝒌-𝒅𝒆𝒆𝒑 in building Compliance Scorecard 😱If you’d asked me a month ago, I would’ve said this trip felt 𝒕𝒆𝒓𝒓𝒊𝒇𝒚𝒊𝒏𝒈—so much to do, so many partners to support, and business operations to handle remotely. It was overwhelming for Maureen and I to tackle 𝐚𝐥𝐨𝐧𝐞. The pressure was 𝑹𝑬𝑨𝑳. ⏭️Fast forward to 𝐭𝐨𝐝𝐚𝐲, and 𝐧𝐨𝐰 we’ve got an 𝐚𝐦𝐚𝐳𝐢𝐧𝐠 team in place. Desraie, Austen, David, and our dev and support team GOT this! 🛠️They have the tools and expertise to be 𝐬𝐮𝐜𝐜𝐞𝐬𝐬𝐟𝐮𝐥 while providing the 𝐞𝐱𝐜𝐞𝐩𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐥 service, and 𝐚𝐭𝐭𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 our partners deserve. 🎂Knowing we’re in 𝐠𝐨𝐨𝐝 𝐡𝐚𝐧𝐝𝐬, Maureen and I can finally step back and enjoy 𝐬𝐨𝐦𝐞 𝐦𝐮𝐜𝐡-𝐧𝐞𝐞𝐝𝐞𝐝 𝐟𝐚𝐦𝐢𝐥𝐲 time and a few 𝑏𝑖𝑟𝑡ℎ𝑑𝑎𝑦 celebrations. What if this year, we gave the gift of appreciation? A lot of companies give Christmas presents to their employees. At Bnewable we decided to do something a little different. Instead of physical gifts, we held what I called a ~ Gift Circle ⭕️ ~ with the entire team, where we took the time to share what we appreciate and value in each other. Not linked to a formal evaluation, in an open setting, appreciation shared by not only your manager but by all your colleagues…. What a powerful and beautiful moment to close out the year! 💚 What mattered was the deep sense of connection and warmth in that moment. After that, we enjoyed a lovely Christmas dinner in our new offices, catered by Quiché – the perfect way to continue the spirit! More about our new space later. It was a beautiful reminder of what truly matters, strengthening our relationships and celebrating the positive energy we create together. A big 🙏 to the team for embracing this moment with open hearts and diving into the experience so fully. Already planning how long you’re going to stick it out…before you reel off your well rehearsed excuse to make an early exit? Can’t leave the dog too long on it’s own eh (you don’t even own a dog) 🤔 Filled with anxiety about whether you’ll get stuck next to the ‘bore’ at the Xmas meal...or that colleague that’s been passively aggressively stitching you up all year? Worried you might drink too much……and some horrible home-truths start spilling out!? Visualising that cathartic moment when you finally let the business owners know the REAL level of disdain you have for their ideas, strategy and general persona…. If you were running the business, you’d show them! 💪 If you are counting down the days until the work’s Christmas with excitement…..that’s just another good sign you’re working with the right people (or you’re an alcoholic). Maybe you’re an introvert, or you have other interests in your spare time, and that’s absolutely fine too… …but if you normally LOVE (or even just like) going out, partying, wining, dining, dancing, chin-wagging, just NOT with your work colleagues… …maybe it’s time to consider some of the new job opportunities I’m working on! It’s no secret that I am a fan of events. I believe in their importance and the potential, powerful impact for teams and brands… and yet a traditional holiday celebration isn’t right for every team. Inspired by the inability to gather during the pandemic, we came up with a unique virtual way to build engagement and connection at VETS Group leading up to the holidays - a virtual countdown calendar! It offers us a way to show appreciation and build engagement across our diverse team, on job sites all over Western Canada. Over the next 12 days we’ll play games, host contests, do gift-aways, engage with our community and build relationships within the organization.
