Swedish startup Heart Aerospace has unveiled a major breakthrough in electric aviation: a full-scale electric aircraft demonstrator, Heart X1. With a 32-meter wingspan, the Heart X1 serves as a precursor to the company's ES-30 project – a 30-seat hybrid-electric aircraft aimed at transforming regional air travel, which is scheduled to enter service by the end of the decade. Presented yesterday at their Hangar Day event in Gothenburg, the reveal signals a bold shift in the industry's response to environmental challenges. CEO Anders Forslund noted that while fuel efficiency improvements have halved consumption since the 1960s, further gains are becoming limited. He emphasised the need for the industry to pivot towards new propulsion technologies, such as electric power, to meet future demands. Forslund's vision aligns with a recent report by The International Council on Clean Transportation, which stresses that aircraft produced by the mid-2030s must have net-zero emissions integrated throughout their lifespan. Lilium N.V. (Nasdaq: LILM), a leading electric aircraft manufacturer and pioneer in Regional Air Mobility (RAM), has successfully completed the first series of tests on its electric jet propulsion unit. For the first time, the electric engines achieved maximum thrust on the propulsion unit test bench, marking a significant milestone towards zero-emission flight and safety verification of the Lilium Jet. These tests confirmed the expected performance and reliability, reinforcing Lilium’s confidence in its propulsion system’s maturity. The testing, conducted at Lilium’s dedicated propulsion unit test bed near Munich, evaluated the aerodynamic and electrical performance of Lilium’s jet technology. This achievement follows extensive engine testing developed in collaboration with suppliers DENSO, Honeywell, Aeronamic, and SKF Group. Steve Vellacott CEng FRAeS, Chief Technology Officer at Lilium, stated, “Completion of the first engine test is a significant achievement for Lilium, demonstrating our leadership in electric jet propulsion technology. We are now closer to the first manned flight and the era of commercial electric flight.” Daniel Wiegand, Lilium Co-Founder and Chief Engineer for Innovation & Future Programs, added, “The first test run of the Lilium Jet propulsion unit is a high point in our journey. Our shared belief in electric jet technology’s potential drives us towards transforming regional aviation. This milestone brings us closer to our goal of commercial entry into service.” Gearing Up for Series Production Lilium is preparing for the initial series production of the Lilium Jet propulsion unit at its assembly line near Munich. Aerostructures supplier Aernnova Aerospace has completed the first build of the propulsion mounting system, and Sener Aerospace & Defence has delivered the first set of servo-actuators. These components enable the propulsion units to transition between vertical and horizontal flight modes. Propulsion units from Lilium’s production line will soon be used for ground testing and integration in the first flight aircraft. #AvfoilNews #Lilium #ElectricAviation #JetPropulsion #RegionalAirMobility #ZeroEmissions #Innovation #AerospaceEngineering #SustainableFlight Read the article on our blog! https://lnkd.in/ggHi5xKY

#worldintellectualpropertyday This is NOT my ONLY invention related to aerospace engineering innovation. And it is definitely NOT my BEST invention in this field. Not even close. Inventions... As we celebrate #worldintellectualpropertyday, it's important to understand that: if you spin up an invention like the Magnecopter while working at a large company it will, most likely, NOT go well for you. Bad managers will take advantage of your proclivities, especially any talent to invent cool new stuff. They will own it, you will not. Management won't want you around after that. In summary: You will be both: 1. Without ownership of your own IP, and; 2. Out of work. These are the facts. Stay frosty. Don't get ripped off by folks with half your IQ. A Piaggio Aerospace Team participated in the annual Clean Aviation Forum in Bruxelles on the 5th and 6th of March. During the event, the main achievements of the research at a European level on the decarbonisation of air transport have been shared. Piaggio Aerospace led the research activities on a transversal Project called SAT (Small Air Transport), involving more than a hundred European partners. Its objective: developing innovative solutions for aerostructure, systems and propulsion for small aircraft and improving efficiency and safety through a “more electric” and digital flight control system. The enabling technologies developed have been integrated and tested in the “Aircraft Zero Lab” Full Scale Iron Bird (ground-based integration test rig) at Piaggio Aerospace's site in Villanova d’Albenga (Italy). These remarkable accomplishments confirm the company's commitment to find innovative solutions for System Electrification and Digitalization as key drivers to meet the increasing market demands for a more sustainable and safer air mobility. #piaggioaerospace #cleanaviation #CleanSky2 #SmallAirTransport #MoreElectric #sustainableaviation #zeroemission Clean Aviation Evektor Group I Safran I Thales I Avio Aero I CIRA - Centro Italiano Ricerche Aerospaziali I Coriolis Composites I DANOBAT I Dowty I GE I Honeywell Aerospace Technologies I IAI - Israel Aerospace Industries I PZL Mielec I Rzeszow University of Technology I Techni-Modul Engineering I Zakłady Lotnicze Margański & Mysłowski S.A.
