🌟 Regional Training Highlight 🌟 Topic: #Psychosocial #Support in #Emergencies -West Region, a collaborative effort by the National Institute of Disaster Management, Sphere India, and Americares India Foundation. 📅 Date: 27th-29th February 2024 📍 Venue: Youth for Unity and Voluntary Action (YUVA) Centre, #Navi Mumbai, Maharashtra Gathering 25 participants from diverse organizations across 4 states of #Gujarat, #Goa, #Maharashtra, & #Rajasthan in #India, the training delved into vital topics: 🔷 Day 1 of the Regional Training on 'Psychosocial Support in Emergencies - West Region' commenced with an introductory panel featuring Anil Kumar Gupta Anirban Mitra & Vikrant Mahajan Day 1 also covered sessions on vulnerability assessment, offering an illuminating exploration into the #Basics of #Disaster #Management & #Impacts of Disaster. Attendees gained insights into the effects of disasters on individuals & communities, essential components of #psychosocial #care, & discussions on #vulnerability mapping & #needs of survivors. Additionally, the day focused on the role of community in #PSS, empowering attendees to identify survivors, assess their needs, & develop crucial #communication and support skills in high-stress environments. Participants also explored Psychosocial Care for #Women & #Children, acquiring skills to address their unique needs & create safe #environments. 🔷Day 2 was filled with enriching discussions & practical insights into the stages of reaction to disasters. Participants explored various categories of reactions, gaining a deeper understanding of diverse responses to crises. The day also featured an in-depth exploration of Basic Techniques of #Psychosocial #Care, equipping participants with essential skills such as ventilation, active listening, empathy, and #social support, fostering resilience and recovery among survivors. Furthermore, discussions on Follow-up & Referral Mechanisms facilitated peer-to-peer learning & collaboration, strengthening support networks. Day 3 focused on providing psychosocial care for vulnerable groups, including #people with #disabilities and the #elderly. Participants gained valuable insights into their unique challenges during disasters & acquired practical skills to create tailored, supportive environments. Discussions on #self-care & #caregivers emphasized effective strategies for managing stress, promoting self-care practices, and upholding #ethical standards in psychosocial care. Additionally, participants developed action plans for support & resilience, ensuring a comprehensive approach to psychosocial support in #emergencies.
