The AGS is pleased to announce Martin Griffin (CEng, FIMMM, CGeol, EurGeol, FGS, FIEDP) (Principal Geotechnical Engineer and EDI Advisor with GHD) will be presenting at the AGS Webinar on How Can We Achieve an Equitable, Diverse, and Inclusive Industry? on 25th September at 11am.   Martin will be presenting on Be Boulder; Ready to Rock N’Roll.   The talk will be an awareness session focussing on allyship towards diverse underrepresented groups. Allyship is a much-misunderstood term and describes the actions, behaviours, and practices we can all do in ground engineering to make our employment sector more welcoming, and inclusive for one and all. By understanding our role, what allyship is, and why it is needed as an essential soft skill. By also providing some practical tips, together we will learn how to move the Equity Diversity Inclusion (EDI) dial a bit further on. Finally, it will comprise my ongoing learning/research on EDI in engineering and some of my and others’ lived experiences while working in ground engineering.   The webinar is free of charge for AGS Members and £50 (plus VAT) for non-Members.   To register for the webinar, visit https://lnkd.in/ezcjwVP6

Each week, Matthew Burns & John Burns host the Burns Engineering, Inc. Operations Call, which provides employees with details on upcoming company events, talent acquisition activities, & operations information. A guest speaker is invited to discuss a project or service line to educate all employees on our excellent work in solving our client's most complex engineering challenges. The week, Landion Donovan-Green presented a walk through of the new learning and development hub that will be a centralized repository raising awareness of development opportunites available to Burns employees. Lan is the Learning and Development Lead at Burns. With over 10 years of experince, Lan is responsible for building the training and development function at Burns. Lan works with subject matter experts to produce Burns specific training. From "Uh Oh" to "Oh Yeah!" Didn't expect this at a conference! The Ground Engineering Magazine Piling & Foundations conference in London is always something to remember, with fascinating projects and interesting industry updates, but what truly blew me away was the sharing of the projects where things didn't all go to plan. No 'everything went well', but honesty about project challenges that the speakers faced. This TRANSPARENCY is EXACTLY what the industry needs, it is a game-changer because: Shared Lessons Learned = Collective Progress: By openly discussing failures/mistakes, we all learn and avoid repeating them, which will have impacts on so many elements (H&S, Quality, Sustainability to name a few). Collaboration Over Competition: Even in a competitive field, this honesty fosters a "we're in this together" attitude that leads to better outcomes for everyone. This is how I see us building a more sustainable future together! Building Confidence: Knowing others have faced hurdles is incredibly reassuring and builds psychological safety. It creates a culture where people will feel empowered to speak up and make sure that, going forward, others learn from mistakes already made because we don't have time to make them all ourselves! A HUGE shout out to Christopher Moore CEng MICE, Martin Stanley (CEng MICE FGS), and Chris Dobson for their honesty! Let's make this the start of a movement where sharing mistakes becomes the norm, propelling the entire construction industry forward! ️ To my network out there: I'm relying on you to pick up this challenge and continue sharing your lessons!
