Bernhard's David Krauss is joining Joseph Saverino, Brandon Seibold, James De Rosa, CPA, and Nick Barcellona for a panel discussion at the Healthcare Financial Management Association (HFMA) Annual Conference in Las Vegas on June 26th. The session "Energy-as-a-Service Solution: Modernize and Monetize Energy Infrastructure" unravels the transformative potential of Energy-as-a-Service — a groundbreaking solution empowering health systems to strategically reduce operating expenses and mitigate operational risk. The discussion delves into the intricacies of Energy-as-a-Service, illuminating how health systems can monetize typically illiquid energy infrastructure assets. The generated proceeds can then fortify balance sheets and fund crucial energy infrastructure improvements, resulting in both significant energy savings and a substantial reduction in greenhouse gas emissions. #energy

Exciting news from the #UnitedStates - Today, Representatives Paul D. Tonko (NY-20) and Garret Graves (LA-06) formally introduced H.R. 8187, the Critical Material Transparency and Reporting of Advanced Clean Energy (Critical Material TRACE) Act, bipartisan legislation that would improve supply chain transparency by establishing a Department of Energy program to support the development, implementation, and adoption of digital identification systems. As the first organization to have conceptualized a #batterypassport as a critical tool to bring transparency and address environmental, social and governance risks and impacts along battery supply chains, the Global Battery Alliance has been supportive of the TRACE Act efforts from the outset and we are thrilled to see it moving forward. GBA Executive Director Inga Petersen endorsed the Act on behalf of the Alliance: “The Global Battery Alliance (GBA) is pleased to see the proposed ‘‘Critical Material Transparency and Reporting in Advanced Clean Energy Act of 2024.’’ Greater transparency regarding risks and impacts across the battery value chain is key to rapidly scaling battery value chains in a sustainable manner. The Battery Passport will be an essential tool to effectively manage impacts and create consumer confidence in batteries and electric vehicles. To facilitate a race to the top regarding sustainability performance, globally harmonized performance expectations are needed and the GBA is inviting all interested stakeholders to participate in our multistakeholder efforts to define the parameters for sustainability reporting for battery value chains building on existing standards and our prior work regarding battery carbon footprint calculation, biodiversity, Indigenous Peoples’ Rights, Human Rights, child and forced labor due diligence.” More supporter statements are available here: https://lnkd.in/eqXFfSq7 A fact sheet on the Act is available here: https://lnkd.in/emHp437z https://lnkd.in/eKVF6Rw5

Guidance and insight on how we can individually and commercially aid a desire for a sustainable environment.
I’m pleased to share with you a new report highlighting the action needed to accelerate energy efficiency in the built environment. This report pinpoints eight opportunities for action to reduce total UK energy demand across domestic and commercial buildings. If followed, these actions could contribute not only to energy efficiency but also to a more prosperous, resilient and sustainable environment. Whilst there are many challenges facing us, I’m confident that if we harness the impetus for change, we can create positive opportunities that improve our communities, our economy, our health, and move towards a net zero environment. The research process informing this report involved consultations with more than 220 expert individuals across public and private sector from close to 150 organisations, seven roundtables and drew on data from over 150 expert reports. I would like to thank each individual and every organisation who contributed time and expert insights into this report. Bravo Mr Gabe Klein and your team at the Joint Office of Energy and Transportation!! Those EV users without off-street parking at home or work only rely on urban public infrastructure to recharge. Kerb-side chargers mostly at residential areas is the way forward (potential to lowest charging costs and better integration with renewables and grids). The challenge, the number of points required. But there are ways to deal with it. Great Britain and Netherlands are also going on that direction. Hopefully many other countries soon too. Wish also #AFIR after its revision by 2026. "That speed seems about right for a government program." Gabe Klein, Joint Office of Energy and Transportation, made a subtle but important point today at the SAFE Summit: government programs take time. When we work with private sector clients applying for government funding, there's often frustration at the timelines. Grant programs typically take a year from application date to when the award contract is finalized. DOE loans can take 12-18 months to get to conditional commitment. (This is federal--states can move a bit faster.) Why? Because of regulations and oversight. If government goes too quickly or gets sloppy, Congressional watchdogs, inspectors general, and/or the Government Accountability Office will start looking into what went wrong. This is a good thing! Our taxpayer-funded agencies are being held to high standards. This means they're responsible with funds and accountable to the taxpayers who foot the bills. Of course things do go wrong, but it's amazing how often they go right. So what should companies do when their need for speed doesn't match government's caution? 1. Apply earlier. This is the number one thing companies can do. Start pursuing government funding months before you start looking for private funding. 2. Speed up your application process. Form an internal working team that can quickly and nimbly pull together all the needed paperwork. Line up internal reviewers so they're ready to go. You can't control the government's timeline, but you're in control of a lot of the speed of an application. 3. Troubleshoot early. Don't get so far down the wrong path that it takes ages to back up and start over again. What other lessons have you learned?
