#APTipTuesday – A question from the venue contact for an event we’re working on is the inspiration for this week’s tip. The contact asked what the three most important expectations are that we have of their staff. Although it’s rare that you’ll be asked this customer service-forward question, make it a point to let your venue contact and other vendors know how their team can be most helpful in ensuring the success of your event. To help formulate some thinking around how you might articulate expectations, here’s what we provided to the venue contact: 1. Quick, helpful, and friendly responsiveness to our questions/concerns onsite; 2. Great tasting and well-presented food; 3. Each venue team member is proactive in making each guest feel welcome and comfortable. #annplans #nonprofitteventplanning #tiptuesday #eventplanning

Econautics believes that the most critical issues of today are all interconnected. For example, you can't achieve health equity if patients don't have access to clean air to breathe, water to drink, and healthful foods to eat. That's why we are actively seeking out and #learning from other #nonprofits in the City of Fort Worth throughout our #reorganization this year. We are #listening to established nonprofits about their challenges, successes and opportunities. We are working to create new #partnerships and to incorporate this #feedback as we design our programs. #Together, we can create #transformationalchange. This week, we want to say thank you to Taste Project Founder Jeff Williams for his time! If you haven't heard of this awesome organization, Taste Project is a nonprofit with a mission to: "feed, educate, and serve our community so they may “…taste and see the Lord is good.” Psalm 34:8. ...Our first project, a non-profit restaurant, focuses on healthy, quality meals made from fresh ingredients. Our menu has no prices. This is a give and take concept. We ask guests to do one of the following: 1) pay what you can afford, 2) pay what you would typically pay, or 3) pay what you would typically pay, plus a little extra." Learn more on their website https://lnkd.in/gX-3HWxa or check them out at: Taste Community Restaurant 1200 South Main Street Fort Worth, Texas 76104 P.S. - Do you know of an awesome local nonprofit that we should check out? E-mail us at info@econautics.org!

I help major gift fundraisers to multiply results (and have fun doing it) with systems, psychology, sanity, and sacredness.
My wife and I love watching the Great British Baking Show (you can find it on Netflix). It’s a reality show where amateur bakers from around the United Kingdom compete against each other to be crowned the UK’s Best Amateur Baker. It’s hilarious, emotional, stressful, and hunger-inducing. One of my favorite segments is the “technical challenge” where the contestants are given a few key ingredients with minimal measurements and instructions for how to complete the challenge (such as Treacle Pudding, which turned out to be one of the hardest technical challenges ever on the show). Many of the technical challenges are not nearly as hard as Treacle Pudding, but the greatest bakers know how to mix the recommended ingredients to create something special and memorable, AND hopefully receive the all-elusive-hand-shake from Paul Hollywood. I issued a technical challenge of sorts this week related to crafting small events to cultivate major gifts for your cause. Search for #breakthruevents to find the three key ingredients I suggested (minus some of the more detailed instructions and nuances). If you would like a little more collaboration on how to get the best result from your event, schedule a free 30 minute call with me to talk further (https://lnkd.in/duEhJdby). That may be plenty, but if you need more time, my sessions are $400 for up to 90 minutes each. It is hard to overstate the potential return on investment of your time and resources on this. #majorgifts #smallevents #invitation #keyingredients #preparation #learning #investing #fundraising

Ah! Yes. I’m so glad we’re finally having this conversation. As someone who regularly gathers people, I want to add my 2 cents. There's a lot of the negativity around dinners and I noticed it's coming from folks who I don’t even see at these events. My initial question was “how can you be so negative towards something you don’t even participate in?” Somebody just reminded me it’s the folks who always get rejected from industry events. Listen. You’re not being rejected because people don’t like you. Curating guest lists is like REALLY FUCKING HARD. You have to think about the people who are going to mesh well together and have overlap. Industry events have a theme. For example, my dinner parties skew towards investors, founders, operators and creators that have a vested interest in talent led brands. I’m working on a few dinners this year are more open invite, but my core community values our intimate hangouts and I owe those to them. Nobody was hosting get togethers for operators, investors and creators in the talent-led brand world until we started doing them. There is a way these individuals think about their businesses that is very unique to them. Having an outlet to decompress with other people who understand what you’re thinking about is valuable and it makes you feel seen in way that their life partners, close friends, and family members just might not fully grasp. I know I speak for a lot of hosts when I say we don’t mean to make anyone feel rejected. We just have an obligation to be hyper curated so that each guest feels like they are in the right place meeting the right people. If you somehow don’t find your community, do what I did and start YOUR OWN dinner series for the people you want to invite. Also, making money on dinners is totally up to you. I decided I wouldn’t and so I haven’t, but I know people still host dinner parties that feel very authentic and still pocket some change at the end. The truth is nobody really cares either way. Just make sure when your guests show up, it’s about them and not you or your sponsors.
You know those e-commerce dinners sponsored by XYZ at fancy Restaurant XYZ that everyone likes to talk negative about? Well here’s a perspective. I’ve been hosting, paying for, gathering people for dinners and meet ups and events for 11 years now. yes there is promotion around this yes there is money being spent yes there is money to the host And cool maybe dinners aren’t your thing or maybe events aren’t your thing but for many founders who CANNOT talk with their wives or husbands or friends about what their doing need an outlet or a place to go that isn’t Twitter or LinkedIn.

An interesting story of the gradual decline of a once ubiquitous roadside diner in the UK. Seemingly a lack of vision, focus on profit, missing the opportunity to adapt to changing customer desires and habits, and a reluctance to keep the restaurants appealing to customers as it cost money. In some ways, the definition of the business is key. Was Little Chef providing a relatively cheap roadside restaurant (focus on sit-down meals), or was it providing sustenance for travellers (providing food to eat-in or takeaway)? Even that small difference changes how you innovate and change. Dashboards will help you to see if you're doing things right, but sometimes you need to step back and ask if you're doing the right things to attract and retain customers and staff. For businesses, you also need products that they want at a price they are willing to pay. For charities, you need giving options that they connect with and a way to engage the donors through sharing the impact your having. Can you spot whether your business or charity is in decline? Have you been ignoring the facts? Have you looked at the bigger picture recently? Contact us if you want help to think about how your business or charity is doing. https://lnkd.in/eKHck_Qe
