Did you know that the global bioeconomy is projected to grow to $30 trillion by 2050? Our new report, Financing a Sustainable Global Bioeconomy, explores how this trillion-dollar opportunity can complement the clean tech revolution and create economic benefits while ensuring biodiversity protection. However, with great potential comes great responsibility. The bioeconomy must be developed sustainably, integrating the needs of Indigenous Peoples and Local Communities (IPLCs) and ensuring fair trade for nature-rich countries. The time to invest in the bioeconomy is here. Learn how we can achieve this in our new report. 📗 Read more: https://lnkd.in/gDAMTqw2 #Bioeconomy #Bioeconomia #Sustainability #Finance #SustainableGrowth

#Bioeconomy at work 🌲👷🌊 Big applause to the European Forest Institute EFI Bioregions Facility for gathering policymakers, civil society, regional leaders, researchers, voluntary sustainability standards, and more—all united to help crafting a new EU #BioeconomyStrategy that champions renewable materials while protecting natural ecosystems. Not an easy balance to strike! 🎤 Highlights of the day: European Commission on stage: Emmanuelle Maire and Peter Wehrheim painted an inspiring picture of how the future EU bioeconomy strategy shall align with #CircularEconomy 🔃♻️ Nicoló Giacomuzzi-Moore showed concrete examples of SMEs innovating resource use and reuse. Proof that with funding, trust, and empowerment, small businesses can make a big impact and lead the way. Well done Circular Bio-based Europe Joint Undertaking (CBE JU) 💡👏 my favorite project was SWEETWOODS. Check them out! Across Europe, national and regional #bioeconomy initiatives are already in motion—each tailored to local contexts. There’s momentum and vision, yet we need more solutions and stories to shape the narrative to ensure sustainability drives every step. 🪜🌿The real challenge remain tackling consumption patterns alongside bioeconomy goals. Or else, we risk overburdening our forests, oceans, and ecosystems. Thanks for the moderation Inazio Martinez de Arano and the invite Siebe Briers. 🚪PS when the room is packed, do we give up? The World Economic Forum's 2025 summit has highlighted nature-positive finance as a critical driver for global sustainability. WEF specialists Aurora M. and Laura Fisher emphasise that improved data frameworks and corporate disclosures are eliminating barriers to action. With biodiversity loss threatening up to US$25tn in annual economic impact, financial institutions are mobilising. Over 194 organisations have joined the Finance for Biodiversity Pledge, whilst sectors from renewable energy to sustainable agriculture could unlock US$10.1tn in annual opportunities by 2030. #SustainableFinance #Biodiversity #WEF2025 https://lnkd.in/eJ4tiP-s

🖥 Webinar – Understanding nature transition plans The mission of the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework (GBF) – endorsed by almost 200 national governments – is to halt and reverse biodiversity loss by 2030. Delivering this requires significant changes to business practices across all sectors, incorporating nature into organisations’ strategy, planning and decision-making. Nature transition plans are a solid foundation to help organisations articulate how they plan to respond and contribute to the transition implied by the GBF. They also support business and financial institutions to build accountability, as well as to manage their nature-related dependencies, impacts, risks and opportunities. The paper presents guidance for corporates and financial institutions to develop robust, actionable nature transition plans to help organisations align business practices with the goals of the Global Biodiversity Framework (GBF). 🔽 Download the guidance - https://lnkd.in/e2ZH8XJf Join one of our two upcoming webinars on nature transition plans, in which we will provide an overview of our recently published draft guidance for corporates and financial institutions, which are currently open for consultation. 📅 26 November 2024 ⏱ Session 1 – 08:00 UTC 🔗 Register - https://lnkd.in/gGJC5-jv 📅 26 November 2024 ⏱ Session 2 – 16:00 UTC 🔗 Register - https://lnkd.in/gn4D_CKw 🗣 Speakers: ◾ Thomas H., Senior Manager – Lead, Transition Planning and Targets, TNFD ◾ Emily McKenzie, Technical Director, TNFD ◾ Tony Goldner, Executive Director, TNFD ◾ Abyd Karmali OBE, Managing Director, ESG Client Advisory, Bank of America; TNFD Taskforce Member ◾ David Croft, Group Head of Sustainability, Reckitt; TNFD Taskforce Member ◾ Joy Williams, Executive Director, Financial Institutions Transition Planning, Glasgow Financial Alliance for Net Zero (GFANZ) ◾ Ira Poensgen, Senior Associate, International Transition Plan Network (ITPN) ◾ Ben Gilbey, Technical Lead, International Transition Plan Network (ITPN) #TNFD #TransitionPlan #Webinar

🌿 Thrilled to share key insights from the vibrant discussions at the Innovation Zero Nature Finance Panel, addressing the challenges and breakthroughs in biodiversity and nature credits. Masterfully moderated by Rich Stockdale PhD of Oxygen Conservation there were some key highlights for me, where: 🔍 Kaija Barisa of Blue Marine Foundation highlighted the unique importance of marine environments, emphasising the holistic benefits of marine restoration both for marine life and associated community benefits. The potential for nature-positive biodiversity credits in our oceans is immense. 🌱 Keith Bohannon introduced Plan Vivo Foundation’s pioneering biodiversity standard, PV Nature, which is setting new benchmarks for community-led conservation projects. His insights reminded the audience of the critical role communities play in scaling these markets sustainably. 🌐 Jo Anderson from Carbon Tanzania brought to light the on-the-ground realities of carbon projects and ecosystem restoration. His experiences underline the importance of aligning financial and political incentives with local needs to manage and protect biodiversity effectively. 📈 I focused on the readiness of the market, emphasising that CreditNature have developed investment-ready projects that are not just plans but realities waiting for action from corporates and financial institutions. I discussed the importance of moving beyond the fear of being first in these markets, highlighting our three-decade track record, alignment with government agencies, national and international standards and the worlds first independently accredited method for evidencing the recovery of ecosystems - all factors that offer reassurance against the risks of greenwashing. 🌟 Rich emphasised that the time for action is now. The cost of inaction is too high—economically, environmentally, and socially. We are equipped with the tools, techniques, and understanding needed to foster significant positive change by supporting biodiversity and nature credit markets. 💬 Now we just need pioneering corporates, financial institutions, and philanthropists to join us. The path is clear, and the gates are open. Investing in nature is no longer just an environmental need but a substantial opportunity for sustainable business growth. #naturepositive #biodiversitycredits #naturecredits #naturebasedsolutions #esg #finance
