Blue Supply Chains – one year in 🎉 1️⃣ 🎂 On the heels of this year’s first Blue Supply Chains (BSC) project partner meeting, which took place last month in Trelleborg, Sweden, comes a brief rundown of the current status of all pilot projects. The BSC project is now a little over a year old and a lot has happened since its inception at the beginning of 2023. Follow the link in the comments to the BSC project website for more detailed information about all the pilot initiatives and other activities, including: 📌 improvement of the rail ferry service between Rostock and Trelleborg 📌 implementing the above into an online booking platform for freight forwarders 📌 our “Swedish consortium’s” knowledge-building study examining the current and future situation for ship bunkering in Sweden 📌 establishment of the first green internal waterway transport corridor in Europe, between Klaipeda and Kaunas 📌 combating emissions related to port and terminal operations by means of electrification 📌 overview of European greening policies and legislative initiatives 📌 innovative approach to stakeholder mapping … and more! As you can see, all the BSC partners have been quite busy and we would like to sincerely thank them for their engagement and commitment! 🤝 👏 💪 💡 #BlueSupplyChains is funded by the Interreg Baltic Sea Region and supported by EU Strategy for the Baltic Sea Region & VASAB 💡 #BSC project partners: Port of Hamburg ROSTOCK PORT Ventspils Augsto tehnoloģiju parks / High Technology Park Trelleborgs Hamn AB / Port of Trelleborg Skagen Havn - Port of Skagen Klaipeda Science and Technology Park Motus Foundation Lithuanian Inland Waterways Authority University of Gdansk Umeå Energi AB Stena Line IVL Lindholmen Science Park Umeå Kommun #UmeaPort INAB-Infrastruktur i Umeå AB Gdynia Container Terminal - A member of CK Hutchison Holdings Baltic Ports Organization Modility GmbH Shipping & Offshore Network and Studiengesellschaft für den Kombinierten Verkehr e.V. #BSC #MadeWithInterreg #sustainability #climate #decarbonization #emissionreduction #transport #logistics #ports #terminals #rail #ferry #maritime #innovation #digitalization #balticsea #bsr #Rostock #Trelleborg

Norway is teeming with green shipping companies, ambitions and projects. Why is it so? André Risholm, Founder and CEO of Amon Maritime, mentions a number of points to ShippingWatch about why Norway is a good breeding ground for a company like theirs. ”One of the reasons is that Norway has a strong maritime cluster with partners that are available locally,” the CEO explains. Harald Solberg CEO at Norwegian Shipowners' Association (Norges Rederiforbund) and Kristoffer A. Rolland from Norsk Industri both point to the complete maritime cluster. All three have ideas on how Norway can remain an incubator for technology development. #shipping #freight #oceanfreight #energytransition #sustainability #technology #innovation #funding

Together with my colleagues Emily Andersson & Jörgen Wrennfors and also our innovation partner Plug and Play Maritime I had the pleasure to host a deep dive on "Advancements in Port Electrification Technology". We gathered key Academia, Ports & Tech companies to explore challenges and possibilities going forward with the aim to inspire & be inspired to continue innovating! Key takeaways: 💡To reduce carbon by 55% by 2030, we need to decarbonize 130 Terrawathours - a massive task and technology is a key enabler 💡 Investments in energy tech are booming, with most investments being done in technology supporting end consumption 💡 Most of the activities at ports can be electrified, but it is a complex system with many different end users and needs 💡 There are a lot of activities ongoing regarding shorepower, but currently, they are mostly isolated. Ports, terminal operators and other stakeholders need to exchange knowledge and best practices 💡 Shorepower gives a lot of opportunity for entrepreneurs to create a standard in the market who are open to take the challenge Thx to everyone who made the deep dive possible and to everyone attending and making it an (inter)active session pushing us all forward! We continue stronger together! 💪🤝 The Port of Gothenburg follow an ambitious plan - the Green Connection - with two main objectives: 🌱 To make the logistics chain fossil free 🌱 Push society's transition to future energy sources A part of this plan is to enable vessels to shut down their engines while at quayside as they are connected to shorepower - Onshore Power Supply (OPS). This technology is a vital part of reducing emissions & noise in the port why we encourage more vessels to switch off their engines & use onshore power instead. Our Secretary General, Madadh MacLaine, had the honour of speaking at the launch of Future Proof Shipping Waal. In a historic moment that marks a significant leap towards the future of transport, key stakeholders and innovators in the field of zero-emission technology gathered at Holland Shipyards Group's Werkendam facility, near Rotterdam, to witness the unveiling of the H2 Barge 2. This pioneering vessel, a beacon of future-proof shipping, has been meticulously transformed from a conventional containership into a state-of-the-art, hydrogen-powered cargo vessel. Secretary General Madadh MacLaine, among the distinguished attendees, celebrated this remarkable achievement alongside representatives from Future Proof Shipping, the Flagships project, and the ZEM Ports NS project. The H2 Barge 2, now ready to ply the Rhine with its revolutionary 100% emission-free propulsion system, signifies a monumental stride in the maritime industry's journey towards eliminating carbon emissions. Its deployment not only showcases the tangible advancements in retrofitting existing vessels with green technology but also underlines the collective resolve of the maritime community to champion solutions for a cleaner future. This event, a testament to collaboration and innovation, heralds a new era where the dream of zero-emission waterborne transport becomes a reality, paving the way for a future focused on sustainability and innovation. 🚢 The "Digital Port Call" initiative, led by the The Port of Gothenburg in collaboration with Inter Terminals, aims to revolutionize port operations by digitalizing the port call process. 🌐 "Digital Port Call" addresses logistical challenges and environmental impact through advanced digital technologies, enabling real-time communication and coordination among up to 120 actors, including shipping companies, terminals, tugboats, pilots, and transport companies. 🔍 The primary objective is to enhance operational efficiency, optimize resource utilization, and significantly reduce CO2 emissions. The project facilitates Just-In-Time arrivals, minimizing waiting times and allowing ships to travel at more eco-friendly speeds, thus reducing anchoring and berthing times, leading to an annual CO2 reduction of approximately 6,000 tons. 💡 This initiative aligns with the Port of Gothenburg Green Connection goal to cut port-related emissions by up to 70% by 2030. With the project in an advanced implementation stage, the Port Authority reports significant improvements in efficiency and emissions reduction. 🔗 For more information you can take a look at SOM-INN PORT Observatory through the following link: https://lnkd.in/dEvZ8S-m SOM-INN PORT <> Port Tarragona
