Askel is turning 7 years old today. Happy Birthday Askel! On Askel’s special day, we wanted to share some thoughts from our founders and asked them to reflect on the past seven years and what they have found most surprising and challenging along the way. Also, what have been the greatest achievements. Our CEO and founder, Virpi Muhonen: “The most surprising aspect of being a startup CEO/founder is the absence of steady and easy-going times. Challenges arise one after another, with more work than hours in a day to tackle them. Furthermore, as the journey progresses, responsibilities only seem to multiply, and the pace accelerates year after year. My greatest achievement has been sustaining the company's growth and progress towards our goal for seven consecutive years.” Anne-Marie Haaparanta, our CTO and founder: “Coming from entrepreneurial families I think neither one of us thought it would be easy to run your own company, however, having a MedTech startup, nothing is easy. But as in many things, here as well, team power is the key and I'm grateful to have Virpi as my co-founder. Without each other this would be so much harder, as well as so much duller. I would say the biggest achievement has absolutely been to have our product, COPLA® Cartilage implant, to be actually used to treat patients. This is why we have worked so hard multiple years, to keep people in motion.” And finally, how does the 7-year-old Askel look like in the eyes of our founders? "Askel is maturing, and our determination to revolutionize the treatment of cartilage defects is stronger than ever. We are proud of all that we have accomplished and how we have been able to gather such a great team and wonderful co-operation with multiple talents to work with. Could not be more excited to move forward and see how Askel grows further. What an exciting time ahead, once again." #askelhealthcare #coplaimplant #wekeepyouinmotion #cartilagerepair #cartilageregeneration #stepsofstardom #fromresearchtobusiness #foundedonscience

Lots of eye opening for me at #luckyleaf minneapolis this last weekend. Top level observations: impressed with some of the startups (special kudos to Terpwolves) who really seem to have business plans together. Troubled however in the lack of information and continued discontinuity in rulemaking and licensure. We need this information ASAP. I know the OCM is trying, but time is running out. I was particularly dismayed from the scuttlebutt that OCM is going to largely depend on out of state labs moving in to support the industry. Flies in the face of the idealism of a craft industry, and threatens the system given the wide range data falsification seen in states with the mega-labs. We have a strong biotech and chemical industry here and there is no reason we can't build a local structure the cooperates with the state reference lab instead of trying to deceive it. Why do we want to ship that revenue out of state?

My Thoughts for Today Mistakes - can be good too! Yes, there can be "good" mistakes, often referred to as "happy accidents" or serendipitous mistakes. These are errors that lead to unexpectedly positive outcomes or valuable discoveries. History is replete with examples of such mistakes. If you don't believe it, here are some: 1. Penicillin: Alexander Fleming accidentally discovered the antibiotic properties of Penicillium mold when it contaminated one of his petri dishes. 2. Microwave Oven: Percy Spencer noticed that a candy bar in his pocket melted while he was working with microwave-emitting radar equipment, leading to the invention of the microwave oven. 3. Post-it Notes: Spencer Silver was trying to develop a strong adhesive but ended up creating a low-tack adhesive, which was later used for Post-it Notes. Examples like the above, illustrate that mistakes can lead to innovation, learning, and unexpected benefits, making them "good" in retrospect. So what are you waiting for? #ccpn #motivation #innovation #startups

My advice to aspiring entrepreneurs: 1) Believe in your own technical and other expertise. Don't let self-doubt hold you back. 2) Build a support group. Find people who understand what you're going through, like close friends and fellow entrepreneurs. 3) Get yourself brainwashed. I did this through trips to Silicon Valley and the Swissnex market entry bootcamp program. The feedback you receive will challenge you, but ultimately make you a better person. I followed these pieces of advice when I started Raized.ai after realizing on a flight to San Francisco that I could change my own industry with the right software. Don't be afraid to take risks and seek out new opportunities for growth. #entrepreneurship #startup #advice https://lnkd.in/d5W3azwu

A carrier lost $300K of our product last week. Great reminder that you never stop getting kicked in the mouth in this game. Yes, you can likely afford a more premium mouth guard over time. But if you don’t brush, floss, and consume ample calcium… …you’re still gonna end up like Toothless Tom out there. - - - Disclaimer 1: this is not dental hygiene advice. The teeth stuff is a metaphor for being resilient. Disclaimer 2: Toothless Tom is a fictional character created for dramatic and alliterative effect. Data does not suggest Toms are more likely to be toothless. #startups #entrepreneurship #cpg
