The Armáda České republiky took delivery of the last of the ordered TITUS armoured vehicles in June. The delivery was arranged by ELDIS Pardubice together with the manufacturer Tatra Defence Vehicle. The Army of the Czech Republic received a total of 62 vehicles of various versions (MKPP, KOVS, KOVVŠ), according to the contract from June 2019. Its value was approximately CZK 6 billion. "All three special versions intended for the Czech Armed Forces are the result of cooperation between several Czech companies and a foreign partner. The main system integrator of the TITUS project is the Kopřivnice-based company TDV, which was responsible for the production of the ridges and assembly of the entire vehicles in cooperation with the French company Nexter Systems. Tatra Trucks supplied the chassis platforms and Retia from Pardubice provided the electronic components and special bodies. The final supplier for the army was Eldis Pardubice," said Andrej Čírtek, spokesman for Czechoslovak Group. The delivery was phased, from August 2023 until June this year. #czechoslovakgroup #csgaerospace #aviation #aerospace

On August 5, Defence Partnership Latvia, a Patria majority-owned joint venture, handed over the first Latvian-made Patria 6x6 armoured personnel carrier to the Nacionālie bruņotie spēki | Latvian National Armed Forces in a ceremony at the military base “Ādaži”. By signing a contract with Patria in 2021, the Latvian Ministry of Defence ordered more than 200 Patria 6×6 armoured vehicles for delivery by 2029. This cooperation agreement strengthens the combat capabilities of the Latvian National Armed Forces (NAF) as well as contributes to the development of Latvian defence technological and industrial base. “Over the past four years since Latvia’s involvement in the multinational Common Armoured Vehicle System (CAVS) programme, we have reached the most significant milestone of the project – the delivery of the first armoured personnel carrier full-cycle produced in Latvia to the National Armed Forces (NAF). With the opening of the Valmiera plant in May, we are focusing on the Latvian armoured personnel carrier order, but we are also actively working to implement other NAF capability development projects in our factory, thereby strengthening both NAF combat capabilities and the Latvian industry and economy as a whole,” stated Ugis Romanovs, Chairman of the Board of Defence Partnership Latvia and Patria Latvia. Trustee, Anaha Trust; former Chairman, The Federal Bank Ltd.; Member PMG, MakerVillage; Director TIMed Incubator SCTIMST; Member, Governing Council, Center for Management Development;
>>Since the Modi government came to office in 2014, there has been a clear shift to western sources of military supplies and equipment, with the US, France, and Israel being the most preferred. Despite this shift, it is ironic that much of India's military capacity continues to rely on tried and tested Russian (earlier Soviet) equipment. If this move is dictated by a wish to reduce risk and dependency on a single source, that is understandable. But India needs to know where her interests lie, and who can be relied upon. >>The mainstay of the Indian Air Force for many years from the late 1960s was the Mig 21, that is now being phased out, but the reliance on Russian aircraft continues with the formidable Su 29s and 30's, with India having many squadrons in frontline roles. The helicopter fleet of both the Air Force and the Army is heavily reliant on Russian Mi 8, Mi 17, Mi 25, and Mi 35 choppers, to do most of the heavy lifting (both literally and figuratively) in the most difficult terrains and conditions. The Army relies of Russian made T 72, T 80 and T 90 tanks as the mainstay of the armored regiments, and a large number of Russian BMPs for the mechanized infantry. The Indian Navy too has its key assets including an aircraft carrier, and several modern missile-equipped frigates, destroyers, and submarines made by Russia, and several modern warships are under order. India's air defense capabilities are almost entirely dependent on the proven and reliable Russian made S300 and S400 systems. >>This heavy reliance on Russian military hardware and systems was more the product of geo-politics than any deliberate foreign policy stance or military strategy, as India, with its non-aligned stance in those days, was viewed unfavorably by the US and the collective West. Despite the Modi administration's efforts to wean India away from Russian #military equipment for whatever reason, geo-politics is again at work to force India into difficult choices. The global order is fracturing into two distinct blocs with the collective West on one side, and the #BRICS led global south on the other. India cannot sit on the fence, and the writing is on the wall for India to make a choice. I believe matters are going to come to a head soon, if not as early as the forthcoming BRICS summit in South Africa. >>With their penchant for imposing #sanctions on countries for various reasons, the countries of the collective West have not proven themselves to be reliable partners. This is seen in their diminishing presence and influence in Africa and most parts of Asia. The fracture in the global financial architecture set up at Bretton Woods completes the divide. India cannot play both sides and must make a choice. If we are guided by history and facts, and see in which direction developments are heading, there is little doubt over what that choice should be.
