IMHO the ability to land in degraded environments is the single biggest improvement towards flight safety. The larger cabin, the more powerful GE engines and the fly by wire flight controls make this aircraft a winner for the Marines.

The Jumbos of the 1940s - Douglas Globemaster l The Douglas C-74 Globemaster was a heavy-lift cargo aircraft manufactured by the Douglas Aircraft Company in Long Beach, California. The aircraft was designed in response to the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor in 1941, which highlighted the need for a military transport aircraft capable of carrying heavy loads across long distances, particularly over the Pacific and Atlantic oceans. Douglas Aircraft Company responded to this need by designing a four-engined aircraft in 1942. However, the aircraft's first flight was delayed until 5 September 1945 due to development and production issues. Production was eventually limited to 14 aircraft before the contract was canceled following V-J Day. VFA-14 Tophatters' F/A-18E (NH) Navy Model, crafted by Squadron Nostalgia. ✈️ VFA-14 traces its lineage to its establishment in 1919, making it the oldest active US Navy fighter squadron. The squadron is known as the "Tophatters" and carries the motto "First and Finest." The nickname's origin dates back to the squadron's early days of adorning their aircraft with black top hats. As of my last update, VFA-14 operates the F/A-18E Super Hornet, a multi-role fighter aircraft used for air superiority and strike missions. The Super Hornet is a larger and more advanced version of the original F/A-18 Hornet. The "NH" in the designation F/A-18E (NH) typically denotes a specific aircraft identifier or tail code. A major unseen benefit of the Block IIIs that is not directly combat-related is an increase in lifespan. Military aircraft rack up lots of flight time between training and deployments, and every extra hour they can spend flying and fighting counts. The Block III Hornets are projected to have a service life around 4,000 hours greater than their Block II counterparts, increasing their total life from 6,000 to 10,000 hours.

No matter what anyone says we believe the A11 watch manufactured jointly in WW2 by Waltham, Elgin & Bulova was the first what has now become known as a Field Watch. However there were a number of iterations of the A11, so you will find A11s in the European Theatre with both the USAAF and a variation with the RAF, the model,shown here is rarer as it’s a FSSC-88-W-800 which denotes a US Navy pilots watch. As most of the war with Japan involved infantry and the US Navy and was fought in the Pacific over large stretches of water and small Islands so most US Navy pilots operated from Flat Top Aircraft Carriers or were based at Pearl Harbour.
