🌟 AI for Science Startups: Automate the Tedious, Not the Creative So you want to create a successful startup focusing on AI for science? Interestingly, most startups I see are trying to automate the most interesting and human-sensitive parts of the scientific process—ideation, hypothesis-making, etc. These are areas where it's incredibly difficult, if not impossible, to outperform humans - if for no other reason that reward function are human-based, and data sets are uhman labeled. And let’s be honest, scientists like doing this part themselves. However, scientific work has a lot of less glamorous tasks, from figuring out formatting requirements for proposals to dealing with compliance paperwork and even determining which overhead rate applies to each project. These tasks eat up a considerable amount of time and aren't what most of us signed up for. If you're looking for customers, why not focus on automating these time-consuming, tedious tasks? It's a real pain point for millions of scientists and a market that’s waiting for innovation. Are there examples of such approach working? Sure - compare success stories of autonomous driving (complex human dominated environment) and fulfillment center robotics. Which one works better?
