My 95-year-old mother always says, "An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure." Let's talk about a proactive approach to combating homelessness. We only have to look outside our doors to realize we have a homelessness problem. One that costs us ... to house one person in a shelter bed is $ 1932.00; in a provincial jail, $4333.00; in a hospital bed, $10,900.00. So, how can we proactively approach the social problem of homelessness? Did you know that there is a correlation between homelessness and children being raised in the foster care system? Did you know that New Brunswick has approximately 1000 children in foster care, with over 500 adoptable children? Did you know that 3 of my grandchildren are now part of this statistic? This month has been challenging for my family, to say the least. I now have 3 grandchildren in 2 different homes. But we are ONE family. And I am fighting hard to get my grandbabies back home with their family. But this is a social problem that will require a social solution one that I call HOME, our mission is to keep siblings together and out of the foster care system. This time it's personal and I am asking you to join me in this war against generational poverty at the home front. Together, we can be the change we want to see, by creating systemic change and disrupting the cycle of homelessness by providing a safe, stable home environment for our future generation -- our children. Systems are not meant to raise children, families are. Over the next 6 months, the government will pay a minimum of $20,000 to keep my 3 grandchildren in foster care. WHAT? This is unjust. This money could be invested in our kinship care model of child rearing by keeping the children with family. The time for change is NOW! I am looking to raise $5000.00/month to establish HOME. If you want to stand with me to support families at the home front, then e-transfer funds to donations.crownsnb@outlook.com or contribute to our Gofundme page - https://gofund.me/27e50076 Thank you #bethechange #familyfirst #onamission #home

🏡💙 FAMILY: A Precious Gift for Kids Aging Out of Foster Care 💙🏡 Did you know that each year 26,000 kids age out of foster care without a family to call their own? 😔 This leaves them virtually alone the world alone, without a support system, putting them at risk of enduring severe social wounds: 🔹 97% immediately fall into chronic poverty. 🔹 Within 18 months, 40% find themselves homeless. 🔹 A shocking 25% attempt suicide. 🔹 81% of young men end up incarcerated. 🔹 71% of young women become pregnant before age 21, with half of their children destined to enter the foster care system as well. 🔹 The majority of trafficking victims have been in foster care. But there's hope! By increasing the number of available foster and adoptive families we can help kids exit foster care into a family, rather than to the streets, and find the support they need to thrive. In our 2023 year end report, we highlight powerful stories of the kids and families we've served, share statistics about the current state of child welfare, and lean into hope as we find solutions to tough problems together. What if vulnerable children and families had somewhere else to turn besides an overburdened system? What if instead of being a case number, they were people with names and faces - where someone knew them, their story, and their needs? What if the gaps could be closed between what the system provides and what they need to thrive? This is the power of Community Beyond the System. At Foster Village, we surround every type of family experiencing foster care - foster parents, kinship families, reunifying families, and former foster youth - with a village of support that dismantles isolation and empowers families to break generational cycles for years to come. Read more about how we do this in our YEAR END REPORT. https://lnkd.in/gEJH3-9H

As with many states, Pennsylvania currently has more children in the foster system than there are families available to take them in. This means many children are left without the stability and care they desperately need. How You Can Help: Become a Foster Parent: Open your heart and home to a child in need. Every child deserves a loving and supportive environment. Spread Awareness: Share this post to help raise awareness about the urgent need for foster families in Pennsylvania. Support Foster Care Organizations: Donate or volunteer with local foster care agencies and support groups. Your contribution can make a significant difference. Advocate for Change: Contact local representatives and advocate for policies that support foster children and improve the foster care system. May is Foster Care Awareness Month. It's a time to reflect on the health of children in foster care, their families, and their caregivers. Connect With A Wish delivers services in the gaps left in the community and works with government and civic leaders to protect our most vulnerable. DID YOU KNOW*: --4,975 children were in foster care in the Commonwealth of Virginia in September 2021? --18.7 months was the median stay for a child in VA foster care in 2021 (up from 15 months in 2020)? --1,898 total children were waiting to be adopted in VA? When you support CWW with your donation and your time, you directly impact the lives of at-risk children and youth in Hampton Roads. Contact us today by DM or email how you can make an impact! .. *statistics are taken from https://lnkd.in/ecXB_ns8 and reflect the difficulty in collecting data. Access to foster care can be infrequent and cyclical, so data assessments are held on September 30th of each year to get a snapshot of the current trends .. #nonprofit #virginiabeach #virginia #vbva #hamptonroads #beach #connectwithawish #fostercare

FOSTER CARE IN 2024 ⦿ 6,000 new carers needed to meet demand ⦿ Net loss of 1000 families last year. ⦿ 7% increase in children in care* These numbers demonstrate the current state of the care system as we enter the new year. When you choose our charity, you join a community driven by a single aim - To be the difference for young people at risk. And in return? ⦿ Personalised support ⦿ Matching driven by you ⦿ Outstanding financial packages ⦿ Events for the whole family ⦿ Low staff turn-over so a friendly face is there for you, 24/7 Could you be the difference, alongside us?
