Have you ever wondered if making that call or sending that email to your representative really makes a difference? Rest assured, it absolutely does! On June 27, the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics saw positive movement on two priority bills by the House of Representatives Ways and Means Committee: - Medically Tailored Home-Delivered Meals Demonstration Pilot Act, H.R. 6780 - Treat and Reduce Obesity Act, H.R. 4818 The advancement of both bills is a win for the Acadmy and reflects success in our policy and advocacy efforts and our engagement with strategic partners and coalitions. However, significant work remains: - Both bills would need to be passed by the full House of Representatives. - The Senate has versions of both bills that could pass as written or leaders could choose to take up the amended versions. - Differences in the bills passed by either chamber would be worked out and negotiated during the reconciliation process. - The precedence on the bills does carry weight if they are not passed in this Congress and need to be reintroduced in future sessions. Join us tomorrow for the #MNT Expansion Affinity Group where we will be discussing the background and next steps for these two important bills. Read more: Medically Tailored Home-Delivered Meals Demonstration Pilot Advancement (https://lnkd.in/gFqvK-P2) #TROA (https://lnkd.in/gqXqXyJm) Academy members can register and join the discussion on July 2nd 3:30 p.m. Eastern Time. https://lnkd.in/eTyEEbJ8 #RDN #MNT #eatrightpro #advocacy

Today, we mark #WorldObesityDay – an important reminder of the critical need to recognize obesity as a complex chronic disease faced by more than 8 million Canadians. While many believe it is simple, obesity is in fact a complex, multifaceted issue that goes beyond just weight. This is why at Novo Nordisk Canada, we are committed to driving change in how the world sees and treats obesity. We have an unwavering commitment to ensure obesity becomes a healthcare priority for Canadians and to help defeat the stigma people living with obesity often face. Together, we can pave the way for a healthier future. Some challenges can’t be solved alone. Obesity is one of them. #DrivingChange #NovoNordisk

VIVUS is proud to partner with the World Obesity Federation and help create awareness and action around treating this chronic disease on #WorldObesityDay (March 4, 2024). Obesity is not only a risk factor for other diseases, it is a disease in its own right. As noted by the World Obesity Foundation, obesity was added to the sixth International Classification of Diseases in 1948. Yet over seven decades later, this classification has not been fully accepted. Although an increasing number of organizations and countries now recognize obesity as a disease, many still do not, hampering attempts to address the pandemic. Review the Healthcare professionals statement in the Obesity Factsheets section of the #WorldObesityDay website at https://lnkd.in/ei5dnZdC VIVUS is committed to advancing treatment options for obesity and offering much-needed hope to patients globally. Today is World Obesity Day. A date created in 2015 by World Health Organization with the objective of increasing awareness, encourage advocacy, improve policies, and share experiences. According to the World Obesity Atlas 2022, there are 360 million people in Latam with #overweight or #obesity, which responds to 58% of the population. Each country faces different challenges when dealing with obesity. At Novo Nordisk, we work hard to drive change and to see obesity recognized as a chronic disease, breaking down the stigmas. Our goal is to increase the quality of life of people so they can live their best lives. This is our goal and our purpose. #DrivingChange #Worldobesityday

Obesity is a multifaceted issue that our society is dealing with and it is never discussed. Whatever proposals there are to bring down the obesity levels seem to be all talk with zero action & hypothetical scenarios to simply educate people on obesity rather than directly addressing the root causes of a diet lacking nutrients and the availability of nutrient dense food to certain populations. I could not even find any updated information so who knows the levels at which American adults are obese in 2024, not to mention the prevalence of childhood obesity… this is actually insane! What is actually being done to prevent this 100% preventable disease that is silently killing Americans. As a public health graduate and nutrition advocate and coach this is actually mind boggling that as a society we’ve been let down so hard & there is nothing being done to address this public health threat. 40+ states in the US where a minimum of 35% of the adult population is obese #obesityepidemic #americansareobese #publichealththreat #obesityispreventable #publichealthscience
