As noted by the World Obesity Foundation, obesity was added to the sixth International Classification of Diseases in 1948. Yet over seven decades later, this classification has not been fully accepted. Although an increasing number of organizations and countries now recognize obesity as a disease, many still do not, hampering attempts to address the pandemic. Obesity is a multifaceted issue that our society is dealing with and it is never discussed. Whatever proposals there are to bring down the obesity levels seem to be all talk with zero action & hypothetical scenarios to simply educate people on obesity rather than directly addressing the root causes of a diet lacking nutrients and the availability of nutrient dense food to certain populations. I could not even find any updated information so who knows the levels at which American adults are obese in 2024, not to mention the prevalence of childhood obesity… this is actually insane! What is actually being done to prevent this 100% preventable disease that is silently killing Americans. As a public health graduate and nutrition advocate and coach this is actually mind boggling that as a society we’ve been let down so hard & there is nothing being done to address this public health threat. 40+ states in the US where a minimum of 35% of the adult population is obese #obesityepidemic #americansareobese #publichealththreat #obesityispreventable #publichealthscience

This year 2024, the World Obesity Day theme is “Let’s Talk About Obesity and...” World Obesity Day is being observed globally today on the 4th of March to counter and end the growing global obesity crisis by promoting applied solutions in a real-world scenario. On this day, people from various international and local organisations all over the world unite to raise awareness about the growing obesity crisis and take collaborative action to correct the misconceptions around obesity, acknowledge the risk factors, and implement real-world solutions. The Day also helps to recognise obesity as a disease which encourages people to seek medical care and shift the public discourse away from individual blame. World Obesity Day is observed every year on March 4 and aims at highlighting the environmental and medical factors that contribute to high obesity rates. The day also aims at ending the stigma associated with Obesity. Obesity is a global problem, and it affects us all. Approx 800 million of us are living with the disease, with millions more at risk.
